First GMC ive owned.. just had a few questions for the true followers out there... Im usually a jeep guy but this one just seemed to call my name in that dealership lot. I was just wondering a few things... the guy that owned it before me worked for the dealership and took decent care of it but im not sure it was quite up to my standards.... it has the flexfuel v8 in it and 60,000 miles. I think he changed the oil every 3-4 thousdand miles but im pretty sure he was running conventional oils and i have always believed in the long lasting benefits of synthetics. I was wondering how long are these GMC engines expected to last even on conventional oils? From what i was told it was a daily driver from amarillo to canyon for school and a few road trips with friends and of course just the general daily needs. I know GMC makes one hell of a rig nowdays but im one that spends quite a bit of money on upkeep and maintainence for my vehichles. I swapped it to castrol edge 5w-30 with a lucas full synthetic additive on saturday. I also swapped the air filter which was honestly pretty nasty... here in the west texas area im sure thats normal but would the really dirty air filter cause a problem for this kind of a truck? and I put one bottle of lucas upper cylinder lubricant and fuel injector cleaner in this full tank. I am beginning hobbiest and i understand that really dirty filters are not good for any vehicle but was curious if anyone thinks this may have contributed to any engine wear/tear already. I was also curious if i should check anything else out to get this thing to maximum performance and keep it there. I am looking to keep this thing for a long time. It has 60,000 on it and for those of you who are better with this stuff than me I just wanna keep this thing in tip top shape so im wondering what else i need to make sure is good to go for these hot summer months. I am looking at flushing the radiator later this week and putting fresh coolant in as well. The transmission seems to be strong still but should i consider flushing that anytime soon? I am just looking for some general input to maybe reverse/repair any possible wear and tear done and to keep this thing in the best condition i possibly can!!!
