Well, I have finished off lifting my suspension by installing an ORD shackle flip on my 99 two door. Next up is the entire exhaust system. I am posting this to see what other people with a 2 door and shackle flip did with there system. Once installed there is not a lot of room out the back for a tail pipe or pipes.

Also, as far as the exhaust goes I wanted to run my plan by you guys. I am looking for efficiency not noise, just a nice deep rumble. I have on order thorley tri-y headers. I would like to put the cats (magnaflow unless there is a better option) right after the collectors then just run two pipes (2.5" to the muffler) along both sides of the vehicle with an h pipe in there before the mufflers (undecided as far as these go).

Thoughts?

Anyone have problems with check engine lights after the high flow cats were installed?

Not that your idea can't be done...but I believe you may have routing problems with the gas tank. Not 100% sure of it's placement on the 2dr, but on my 4dr, the tank is on the driver side.

Also, for best efficiency and tuning, you'll want to have the cross-over pipe as close to the collectors as possible. Placing them at end of the exhaust stream won't give you any real performance advantages.

You'll like the Thorley Tri-Ys... check my signature for performance suggestions (they're mild, but noticeable).

Gas tank is in the center behind the hitch.

Just checked out your mods as far as ignition and intake goes this is all stuff I was planning on doing exactly, weird. Couple questions, was the ignition controller worth it? Why did you not use msd spark plug wires? would you install the vmax spacer again and did you bend the fuel lines or install flexibe ones?

I installed the Taylor wires loooong before I purchased and installed the MSD stuff. Based on what I read, the Taylor wires have lower resistance values from end to end, meaning that more of the spark gets to the plug.

I'd do the VMax spacer again - definitely makes for less obstruction and more breathing room under the plenum. It increases overall TQ/HP numbers which makes your mid-upper RPM band stronger. If you're consistently below 3000 RPM, you may not find it worthwhile. I bent the fuel lines, but have been wanting to get flex lines (will probably do that when I replace the engine at some point)

Is there any issues/benefit to using a reducer? My headers have a 2 1/2 inch collector and I am thinking that 2 1/2 inch is too big and I might want to use 2 1/4 inch pipe instead.

You'll be fine with the dual 2.5" collector... at most (assuming a factory setup), you may notice a slight decrease in your low end grunt, but your top end will be much better.

Only reason I say "may" is because you seem to have larger tires - which already drops your off-idle performance. 2.5" pipes will definitely allow your motor to exhale easier than the factory 1.75" ones (crimped even smaller in the bends).

The lift I put on as an RCD knuckle lift with Bilstein shocks all the way around. You'll notice in the picture the red bushing that was a replacement after the exhaust was cut. The heat from the exhaust melted the bushings that were in there and had to be replaced the exhaust then was slightly rerouted as you can see in the picture but there really isn't a lot of room. I am thinking about just keeping things simple and running all the pipe and muffler in the stock location just doing a dual in and single out muffler with a single 3 inch pipe coming out of the muffler. I am pretty happy with the shackle flip as well as the 14 bolt rear differential I installed at the same time. The power transfer due to the larger diameter axle has been much better with the larger tires that are on my truck.

...was the ignition controller worth it?
Just realized I failed to answer this question in my earlier reply (my apologies).

I've been happy with the ignition controller. Initially I was trying to troubleshoot/fix a random/sporadic misfire problem that ended up being a bad distribution gear. The ignition controller makes for a better, more complete, fuel burn (more sparks per cycle) which helps with performance and economy (yes, you can have both).

Got the headers installed with complete exhaust. Truck sounds great, but there is a problem something is banging around in the highway. I'm not sure where it's coming from yet. Otherwise I am really happy the truck no longer feels bogged down due to the tires and lift. Now it's time to start planning the next mod.
