I want a new exhaust setup I have the 5.7vortec I want it to be as loud as a straight pipe but without the crackle raspy sound I would like a deep performance sound with a ton of volume even at idle. As well as lots og flow. I was thinking long tubes to start. Anyone have any recommendations? I've noticed my vortec is quite a bit quieter then my TBI 350.

long tubes to glass packs no cats would be loudest. i would personally go with a set of cherry bomb vortec mufflers. if you are worried about back pressure then run a set of non mandrel bent 2.5" duals out the back. anything above 2.5" on a motor running less than 450 hp is a waste.

He's 21, what do you expect? everyone went through a loud exhaust phase, I'm just glad mine was 37 years ago.

Long tube headers, 2.5 inch pipes to dual 3" glass packs (yes I said 3" there is a reason for that) or maybe dual 10 series Flowmasters. Then it's your choice to go with tail pipes or not.

I personally run shorties, magnaflow cats, borla mufler. Any muffler will quiet the truck down. Put some exhaust by-passes in there and give your self the option of straight out or with mufflers.

I've noticed the crackle is common with vortecs... Could just be me though. I'm running longtubes with 2.5" duals y'd into single 3" no mufflers or cats. Its loud as hell but crackles down low. I just ordered a Flowmaster super 44 3" SI/SO with rest of my engine stuff to help bring noise down a little but should still be loud with a better note to it.

Also the cutouts idea wouldn't be a bad idea, could run cutouts for when ya wanna be loud and run FM 70 series if ya wanna be quieter with a classic muscle sound.

No need to worry about backpressure, velocity and scavenging is the ticket.

I went with loud route once... Longtubes, 3 inch exhaust, to 50 series with a tailpipe out the back. It was annoying as hell! Glad i dont have that anymore! That was with a 50 series flowmaster.... Seriously save yourself some money and just put a flowmaster 70 series or the biggest magnaflow muffler and put some cutouts in front of the mufflers.

When i say save yourself some money... I meant that for when you change your exhaust 2 months after you realize the loud part is only cool sometimes and not all the time...

Thanks for the replies everyone! Sorry I basically forgot about this thread just got a new job at les Schwab and it's crazy long hours.

But I pulled the muffler off my truck and actually really like the sound been driving that way for about 2 weeks but I think I'm gonna go with the cut out idea so I don't have to be loud all the time. Any good e cut out recommendations??

Yeah I'll admit I am that guy who thinks straights are awesome and sound good but after going with the super 44 I just put on... I'm rethinking that haha. I would even go with a 40 series or a 70 with cutouts when wanted.

Summitracing has some cheaper priced e cutouts I think, they also carry other brands to. Try to go with electric even though they cost more, the ease of use is so nice! We have em on our 69 Chevelle with a 502. :)

I run long tubes with 2.5 inch dual pipes into 3030xl areo turbines turned down. I love it. when idling its not very loud at all. but if you step on it it gets loud quick. the best thing is at cruising speeds the drone is very minimal . when I had the single super 44 I couldn't even talk to people when I was driving

My single 44 series is awesome so far, I have no complaint with talking to people while driving... maybe I'm just used to yelling with straight pipes :p
