I bought my 2021 Yukon SLT a few weeks ago. About a week ago, the plastic cover on the Reverse shifter button came off. Annoying, but it would stay in there as long as I was careful with it.

I just parallel parked the Yukon in between an older Tahoe and a Sierra. As I straightened out and went to back up, the plastic R cover came off and it appear the button/lever itself is broken and the vehicle won’t go into reverse.

I tried prodding the button to see if I can trigger reverse but it hasn’t. I can’t pull forward until the Tahoe moves.

Dealership isn’t answering.

Anyone know of a way to engage reverse with a broken button/lever?

try to put it in neutral, then push it back far enough so that you can put in drive and get out .. you shouldn’t need too much clearance just to get out of a parallel park

Update: the car in front left so I headed to the dealership. Stopped to get gas (needle pegged on E). Went to leave and whaddya know, the Drive button broke.

The gas station is across the street so I walked to the dealership to figure out how to get it over here.

Second update: we were able to engage Drive by pressing down on the white plastic part in the button that appears to connect to the light.

It also worked for Reverse so if you find yourself with broken shift buttons, press down on the white plastic “tab” to the left of the light.

See if you can get an insurance discount for that new anti-theft feature.

Ha! That's thinking positively! Also, my loaner on short notice is a 2024 "Turbomax" Sierra. I'm sure it'll do massive burnouts if given the opportunity.

Third update: new buttons were installed and I picked up the Yukon today. The repair was covered CPO warranty. So, not great but lesson learned.

If your button breaks, press the white tab!

Glad you got it fixed. But dang, someone must have had some hulk hands on those buttons before you owned the truck.
