Finally getting around to putting my double din into my denali.

I'm going with the alpine w505. Awessssome unit, even though it doesnt come built in with all the bells an wistles(sp?) that other units do, since alpine are such cheap asses.

I dont really care for nav, so im just adding BT to the unit via the KCE-400bt. Its all wired up, i just need to put the unit in and run wires for the mic and ipod/usb cord.

I may be able to get it done tonight before it goes to get tinted on Thursday. I'll try to take some pictures, wish me luck!

Had the w505 in my BMW X5 before I sold it. Good unit for ipod integration/audio/video, but TERRIBLE unit for the joke of a navigation system that Alpine "integrated" into this unit. (The blackbird)

The blackbird unit was also Alpine's sad excuse for bluetooth integration. My phone never worked to sync with the blackbird because of the 6000+ contacts I have on my phone... But still, even when the contacts sync was turned off, the dialing on the screen and reliability of the bluetooth connection was inconsistent (at best).

Anyway, it sounds like you are hooking up an external bluetooth unit, and I believe that would be a much better solution. I know it sounds like im bashing this unit, but not at all. The unit itself is a really good unit for everything else, but Alpine just dropped the ball on the Nav part of it...

I would still have this unit, however, it cost quite a bit to have it installed in the X5 because they do not make a double din kit for the BMW. I had a custom shop modify the dash, and fiberglass/body putty a trim piece to surround the unit. When I sold it, I told everyone who looked at it, I can either put it all back to stock and take off $500 or leave this unit in at the sale price!

Sorry for the rant, bottom line, great unit. Im excited to see a sleek unit like the w505 mounted up on the denali dash.. may make me reconsider the aftermarket nav option :)

O ya i know all about the blackbird and the dockable p1 unit they made....poor to say the least. They now make completely separate nav and bluetooth pieces, but being alpine you of course have to pay for them. Its one of the most astetically pleasing units ive seen, and the screen quality is great, im stoked to get it in.

Got it all in, pain in the ass fitting the os4, the tr7, and the swi-jack. Ill get some pics up of it all.

FYI if anyone is hooking up a w505 with a kce-400bt, you need an additional part to be able to get it to work. KWE-460E, its like $20 for it.
