Door lock actuators

There seems to be inconsistent results when finding a replacement.


So I’m asking who has replaced these and with what part number?

Also when did they fail again if not how long have you had them for?

I need one and want to buy it once. My rear left failed. I have not pulled the panel off yet either. I only want to do this once as well.

Would you? The only way I would use the cheaper parts is if I had to get it fixed now and the AC Delco part was not available or if I was selling the rig.

The AC Delco unit is available at Amazon for free shipping but shows no pic at this time. The one from GM Parts Giant is approximately $50 less but will have shipping and if you can wait, the cheap ground shipping should be less than $10 on that small part.

08z , I realize this is a few months old but wondering which direction you went with? I need to do both passenger side doors. As you said earlier, opinions and options are all over the place on these parts.

Ac delco. Easy peasy. Anywhere between 100-160 each.

A few days after i bought my Tahoe, the passenger side door lock started acting up randomly.
Sometimes it would lock, other times nope.

Ended up deciding to replace it..
Searched around a little but didn't find much...
Then Amazon had it, $35 shipped with prime.

Ordered, changed.
Hand/arm looked like a cat attacked it when i was done.

It's been a few months, and it's still working fine.

Only real complaint is that the door has a different sound when closing.
I believe it's slightly out of alignment with the door pin on the truck side...

The china/amazon special lock also has a clip that was a serious pita to get latched.
I tried to use the original clip but found the design pretty different between the two.
I ended up getting it latched in using plyers and some super glue for good luck...


Now my driver side is acting up, not nearly as bad.
With my experience with the install and the overall function of the china part, i bought OEM this time.

The OEM replacement sitting in my toolbox ready to rock and roll.
But it has not annoyed me enough (yet) to tackle the job.

For the passenger side, it was more of a security issue.
Harder to manually lock when it decides to not auto lock...


I also found it confusing to order the latch, lots of different options mentioned.
The china lock, not so much.
But it's working fine...



GM Parts direct is what i have been using for parts number searches.
For my new Driver side door lock waiting in my toolbox, i picked it up off of ebay for about $50 shipped.

Seller had a single unit, something about buying batches of crap from dealers or something...
They had a "best offer" option and they accepted it.

That’s why I went with the ac delco. It’s so easy to replace but don’t want to do it often.

As a general rule of thumb, I always try to stick with Delco. But I will say, I haven't had bad luck with a Dorman replacement.

I did my driver door about two and a half years ago. At the time, I was in a rush (had to drive back to school), and all that was available quick enough and inexpensively enough was the Dorman part. I did the swap and haven't had an issue yet.

I figured whenever it goes bad, I'll stick the Delco one in.

Just my $.02 worth.

If i get no dome light when i open my passenger door will the cause be a bad lock actuator it locks and locks fine

Very good chance that is it. 100% for sure? A parts replacement is a great choice but not a guaranteed fix. Several threads on this forum about that part replacement fixing this problem.
