Does anyone know what this unit is?

Could someone tell me what this is?


I changed my differential oil today and noticed this this part mounted under the body, on the Drivers’ side, toward the middle – aft of the gas tank.

At first I thought it might be some suspension thing, but I ruled that out – so what is this? Something to do with emissions?

Evap charcoal canister with vent solenoid on the side.

Thanks guys. I never did learn about these things until now. Found some good instructional videos on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzfR84T6pBY) to explain how the systems works and now I know the difference between a purge valve and vent valve, Etc - the basics of the EVAP system.

If I ever get the error codes that lead to this system, I know where to start troubleshooting too.
