I recently put a set of 17" Silverado wheels w/ 265-70-17 tires on my '02 Tahoe. The originals were 16s and the spare is a 265-70-16. 3.3% difference in circumference. My Tahoe is rwd w/ the G80 positraction diff. Can I use this spare to get me to a tire shop? I assume it would be fine on the front but it is the rear that concerns me. I'd rather not have to swap a tire F to R on the road.

I wouldn't chance it. I did the same tire and wheel swap on my Tahoe. I just went and bought a spare in the same size. If you search on Craig's list, they're on there all the time. Got a brand new spare from an Escalade, 265 70 17 with rim for $55. Just gotta be patient.

Seeing how limited slip diffs work the 1" difference should not matter for a short period of time, I would not travel further than 50 miles and stay under 45mph to get to a shop or home.

Like Alex said a quick trip around the corner to the tire shop should be fine, obviously no speed racing lol.

But I'm like tony and wouldn't chance it knowing my luck. Just swap the tires front to back. It would suck doing it on the side of the road but at least you're 100% sure you won't mess anything up and your mind is at ease. Also you can schedule the tire shop visit at a later date so it's not rushed.

Btw I have 18s with a 2" taller and 2" wider tire so I have no choice but to swap to front if the flat is in the rear. My spare is the factory size 16

It's odd but I believe my 04 XL came with the 265/70/17 and has a 265/70/16 spare. I have the AWD also. At least that is what's on there now when I bought it. It even has the 17s on the door sticker.

As far as I know only z71 and yukon Denalis came with 17s. regular tahoes all came with 16s.

That's what it seems when I put in my year and such when looking up parts or tires but on the door sticker it has the 17s. I'm not sure why.

This is one reason I recently bought 5 tires and extra wheel to have a matching spare. Plus one of these days I will be adding a swing out spare to the rear bumper and its gotta look good.

Is your vin on the sticker?
There is a vin. Looks to be factory. I haven't compared yet but seems to right as it is an 04 and it was built 9/03. I will have to compare a little later when I go out.

These are the wheels. Sorry not the best but it's the only one I have at the moment.

I just looked at the vin on the sticker on door jam and on vehicle and they are both the same.

Maybe it's a not very common package for the SLT because like I said before when I've looked up tires a lot of times it only shows the 16s.

That's exactly the same thing I thought when I first saw the difference in size.
