Just picked up a 2013 Denali with the beloved AFM.....I have the ability to disable it, should I? Or should I just leave it alone?

I know a lot of guys with silverado/sierras are gaining economy by disabling it. I disabled mine about 25 seconds after signing the paperwork, so I can't say whether or not it helped with mileage... but to not have it hesitate when I hammer it is nice.

Disabled mine....lost about 0.5-1 mpg but the hesitation and the drone is gone, so I'm happy :)

The new 2013 has afm on the 6.2. I thought the 6.2 was sans afm.

AFM is present on Yukon/Escalade models, but the Sierra/Silverado do not have it.

What year did it start to come in the 6.2. Did they ever solve the oil consumption issue it creates.

Afm was famous for all the 5.3 motor problems in the previous years. I can tell you that mpg is going to be a hard swallow if you are not used to stopping at the pump often.
Compare the mpg difference and make the decision, if it makes any at all.

I say toss it and tune that puppy out.

FWIW, I'm getting 21.5 mpg average on the highway with a level kit, 275/55/20 AT's running 28psi, and the Diablo tune using 93 octane... and no AFM. I lost .5 mpg when I leveled it, as I've noticed it tends to upshift more than it did before (might have something to do with not having an alignment afterwards? lazy me).

That's amazing mpg. What year is your car?

Oh and also get an alignment asap. Definitely necessary after a leveling kit.

It's a 2010. Mind you, to get that, I'm driving somewhere in the neighborhood of 63 MPH haha. If I bump it up to 73, I drop down to low to mid 18's.

Only reason I'm holding off on the alignment is the notion of me getting a 3.5 lift... which would result in yet another $79...

It's so hard to drive the 6.2 60mph. It's such a tease

oh... wow. Ummm, maybe if I had read, I'd realize why 21.5 and amazing mpg are in the same sentence. I have a 5.3 hoe. So, perhaps that changes things and explains the loss in mpg in deactivating AFM by someone else.

So we took a road trip as soon as we drove it off the lot....Ive noticed that the only time it comes on over 65mph is when coasting down a hill. At 65mph and below, it sporadically comes on if Im on a perfectly flat road that requires virtually no movement of the go peddle. It's seems really weird to me......so I think it's gonna go. On a side note, the quality on the Denali's has really nosed dive since 2007. I think I want our 07 back!!

Truck is going to be learning your driving style for a while. Drive it easy for a while then like you stole it.
