Coil, Wire and Plug Replacement.

I'm at 53,000 and started to pick up a little hesitation /rumble so I am planning on swapping all coils, wires and plugs. I've had nothing but success with Granatelli in my Mustang so that's the route I'm going. Planning on using:

1) Granatelli Motorsports Malevolent Coil Packs 28-0514-CPBM
2) Granatelli Motorsports Coil-Near-Plug Ignition Wire Connector Kit 28-1545HTBLB
3) ACDelco 12622441 Plugs

Anybody have any thoughts, feelings or emotions about the choice?

Ok. So I got it all done. #8 was a PITA. Needed 11” needle nose hose pliers to get it all out. Would it kill GM to put some grease on the plugs at the factory. The boots all came out in pieces. Only 1 came off without a hassle. You’ve got to take the passenger front tire off and the wheel well cover otherwise it’s IMPOSSIBLE to get #8 out. Also dropped in a K&N filter got it for $35.00 on sale at Advance. Anyway, long story short, much better idle and throttle response. Gas mileage seems about the same.

I doubt the coil packs really helped. OE coils are good for 200k miles. Wires, I think OK. New plugs, yep. GM tells you 100k and I cal BS. Iridium plugs are cheap in the long run. # 8 is always a real ****** on LT or LS motors.

#8 with the right combination of extension/swivels it can be done w/o removing the wheel/liner and I have long tube headers.....they never make anything easier.

My buddy has 153k on his original coils and my tuner who has plenty of LS/LT platforms well past 1000 wheel are all on OEM coils.

Number 8 is the easiest on my van LOL! 7 is a close second. 1-6 can go to H-E double hockey sticks

Avalon - Yes, I ran a can of the STP cleaner through. You warm up the motor, hang the can, sneak the hose into the intake and idle at 1500 for 9 minutes while the magic juice does its thing. Cleaned out the carbon really nicely. I was shocked.

TollKeeper - Coils were $738 on sale. Wires $279. Plugs Were like $9.00 a piece and I got a $3.00 per plug rebate from autozone. All "tolled" :D around $1000.00

It took me 2 swivels, 2 extensions and busted and scraped up knuckles to get #8 out. But at least I know to START with that SOB next time. I'd rather do the shocks again than deal with that bastard.

Yeaaaa 8 is a killer. I did mine recently - I'm 6'5 and have big hands. Started with #8, and removed the wheel and wheelwell for access. Removed the wires with hose pliers, and then used a combo of a spark plug socket and a 19mm (I think) on the back of it and one to two ratchet clicks at a time, I got it off. That is oversimplifying it though, I spent an hour on #8 alone, and then all the others took less than an hour combined. Glad this isn't a more frequent thing

delco everything would have been plenty on a stock truck. and even many modded. hope they hold up well for you.

I have stock coils on a 2,000hp C6 with 40 psi of boost. Factory coils very rarely ever go out and the aftermarket ones have alot higher failure rate vs oem. I ended up buying a coil tester to test them and have yet to find a bad one. Plugs, wires or dirty injectors is more common.
