So I need to get a couple extra keys for the new (to me) 2012 Eskie and the dealer tells me that all they have is the basic GM key? He claims you cannot get the original Cadillac key with the Caddy crest on it anymore. He went onto say that there was some kind of recall on keys and they all went this way? I jumped online and found all kinds of OEM Caddy keys. Is there any reason not to go with the Cadillac keys or should a guy go with these GM keys from the dealer???

Thanks!!

Just get some on eBay with the Cadillac symbol that are aftermarket with the transponder chip. I've used them the past decade on many different Tahoes and Yukons and none have ever failed me. You get it keyed at your dealership which mine is awesome and doesn't even charge me. Then go in your car put original key in and start it. Immediately take it out and put newly keyed key on also starting it. Repeat process if you have more than one new one. Make sure to search on eBay with the word transponder. It's the computer chip in the key and its symbol is a circle with a plus sign engraved in the metal by the black plastic handle of the key.
