hello all, I did a brembo brake upgrade on my 2023 z71 4x4 Tahoe and I have the service brake assist coming on dash. I tried taking neg. battery cable off to reset, it didn't work. Do I need to take to dealer to have them reprogram upgrade in computer?

Did you install the Brembo brakes yourself? Were there any instructions or steps involved regarding the brake pads wear indicators?

I’m not 100% positive, but i believe it has been posted on the forums that with the Brembo brake upgrade on the ‘21-‘24 you lose the brake pad wear indicators that display on the DIC display. My guess is it would have something to do with that.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

You should not have to reprogram anything with this brake hardware change.

If you don't already have one, I recommend that you get yourself a quality bi-directional scanner to add to your tool box. Then, you will be able to read ALL trouble codes, along with a brief explanation/pointer to the source of your issue. You will also be able to reset/delete trouble codes, after taking corrective action. You will literally save thousands of dollars in diagnostic and repair costs over the life of your truck, and you will most likely recoup the cost of the scanner within 1 year.

A scanner will definitely zero you in on the source of your issue. I would suggest that you take a look at the electrical connectors going into each of your wheel hubs. Sometimes, while working on brakes, you can inadvertently disconnect that connector, or perhaps, you disconnected the connector, and did not fully close the connector when reconnecting.

When you reconnected all of the brake lines, did you follow the brake line and master cylinder bleeding procedure? With a quality scan tool, you can perform this function using the scan tool.

Be advised that GM offers 2 front performance brake kits - the part numbers are different and 95% of the kit is identical but one is $400 cheaper than the other. Plus there are some key differences.
For some reason they are not compatible with all years and models.
The GM site says the cheaper part number does not fit my 2024 Tahoe HC.
The 15 page installation instructions for both are identical except for page 14. One is plug and play for brake life wear and it will display on the DIC.
The other does not come with brake life sensor and the wear indicator must be disabled.

Did you get the correct part number for your 2023?
Page 13-15 describes how to reset or disable the wear sensor.
Unfortunately the website only shows the same instructions for both but a GM parts department is able to get you the correct installation instructions if you didn’t get it with the package or lost the original paperwork.

Unfortunately this is true and another example of putting the priority on the revenue stream over the engineering and quality control.
You would think that the people who spend their money on expensive upgrades should have compatibility across the models. If there is a major refresh it’s one thing but the brakes on 2021-2026 should be compatible.

If the vehicle has the ability to run diagnostics like brake wear built in to the DIC, it’s logical to expect the OEM upgrade to work with existing system.

Even minimal quality control would make sure the upgrade is compatible!
The reason the customer spends the money on “performance” parts, is to improve performance on the existing platform. The customer should not have to give up the ability to monitor brake wear to improve performance!

I never had a vehicle that showed brake pad wear before my 2021 Suburban and when I put on my Brembo kit, I am sure I will be just fine without the truck showing me the front brake pad % that I never look at anyway. I guess I am old fashioned and look at the pads when I rotate tires or do any other maintenance.

That’s exactly what my mechanic told me when he installed the Performance Brake kit.
