Anyone see the following and have any comments? Found it on Motorbiscuit.com tonight.

"Previously, OW-20 oil was recommended for the engines. But GM mandated that if engines passed inspection, they needed Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 oil instead. If they failed inspection, they got replaced.

But according to Car and Driver, it’s time to change oil types again. GM issued a bulletin to dealers instructing them to use Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 now.

Reportedly, the 0W-40 oil corrected the issue related to the recall. However, the FS 0W-40 is more affordable and widely available to provide savings."

Assume the "FS" stands for Full Synthetic.

Ha! Jokes on them. I never bought into the Supercar variant and instead opted to buy/use the European Car Formula 0W-40 due to it costing half as much per quart. My money is on that is what they're talking about in this latest change. Cause the only other 0W-40 offering by Mobil 1 is ESP variant which is for DPF-equipped diesels and it's not Dexos R approved. The other two are.

Seems like the chatter is slowing down. Was at the dealer this week. Not seeing many failures coming in. Crickets according to them.

Impossible to order a 3.0 right now. 0 available in all of Canada coast-coast and 0 allocations given last week lol. You can buy a 6.2 but even then, aren’t many Yukon XL Denali’s available out there.

Why is the 3.0 market tight. Is everybody buying them as soon as they hit the lot or is gm reducing production?

That’s what I’m wondering. I think it’s a bit of both. Or is all the allocation being kept for the US market right now? My sales manager showed me his ordering screen. They were getting tons of diesel allocations in the fall but it’s been crickets for a couple months. This is a big high volume dealer with several locations too. But again 0 diesels were allocated across all of Canada last week wild. I’ll see what tomorrow bings.

I think it’s a supply issue because there’s no allocations being given. So demand by default exceeds supply.

My theory: they had to start setting aside new 3.0 LZ0 engines for all the thrust bearing issues. Otherwise, why would the 3.0 be under constraint if dealers aren’t even getting allocations to begin with. So, something is up on the production side and they’re having issues making the engines, or those engines are being redirected to replace failed 2025/2026 3.0’s in existing trucks like the FB group poster below. 2026 with 7,800 miles. Another poster comments that his 2026 AT4 has been at the dealer since New Year’s Eve and he just got it back. Not sure this issue has fully been resolved. With diesel being 20-25% more expensive where I live I’m considering a March 2026 build 6.2 Denali XL over the seemingly unavailable 3.0 LZ0.

It’s either that or I keep my ‘24 XL SLT 3.0 LM2 and wait 2-3 years for the new generation but, now I’m into the whole “buying at the start of a new generation” pool of owners. That can have its pros and cons too.

If supply tightens, I think they send the excess engines towards the pickup trucks. You hardly ever to never see a LZ0 on dealer lots in the Tahoe or Yukon. Dealers won't order them for stock because they don't think people want them, or they won't be configured the way they want to buy them. The vast majority of public is still scared of diesels. Especially Tahoe/Yukon buyers. The public is probably more receptive to these in the pickup truck format than in the SUV format. As long as I have no engine durability issues, I'm still happy with both the LM2 and the LZ0. Except diesel has jumped 1.40 a gal in the last 5 days!

Yea agreed. Diesel jumping more than gasoline here too. How does $7.60/gallon Canadian sound? LOL. Premium about $5.90’ish.

Back to the L87 discussion…

My replacement 6.2 expected in early next week and truck ready end of week. Told most replacement engines dealer is seeing are remanufactured these days so fingers crossed I get a good one.

With 10yr/150k warranty on the bottom end how worried is everyone about DFM failure which you would have to pay for out of pocket?

Run a Carbyte or similar device and your DFM worries shall be significantly reduced.

The idea of taking it out every time young to the dealer seems like a hassle. Anyone have any electrical issues because of these?
