Took mine in for the test last week. It passed. New cap, oil change and a photocopied flyer to stick in my manual. Little conflicted with all of this. Dealer has had about a 50/50 pass/fail thus far, but it's early. They've also had a couple towed in. I have a question for anybody here who has taken there's in and passed. Did you receive ANYTHING regarding the supplemental bottom-end drivetrain warranty? I did not and will be calling back this morning when they open to ask. I'm assuming/hoping it's somehow linked to my VIN in the dealer/GM system? I just want to make sure I'm covered.

Yes it will be linked to your vin so if you take it in for bottom end engine failure and when they punch in your vin it will show the extended warranty in their system.

First hand, has anybody here taken their rig in for the recall test and failed?

Wow, 50/50 pass fail. Didn’t think it was anywhere near that. Are they impounding vehicles or just saying drive it until we get an engine?

I should have been more clear. This was at my dealer and again, they just started getting their first batch(es) of VIN's released. I got a proactive call from the dealer 2 weeks ago before I received the second recall letter. They've had at least 2 towed in and have only tested roughly half a dozen or so as of last Wednesday. Still very early where I'm at.

Is there anything I should know about towing boats/trailers other than head on a swivel? What happens if it fails? Will I lose anything other than propulsion? Power Steering?

Open the My GMC/My Chevrolet/My Cadillac App and look at the Help Center then under Recalls and Warranties, you should see the Supplemental Powertrain Warranty Extension for the engine bottom end listed in the Warranty section. I do not recall the exact wording, but you should see it show up within a short period after having the inspection performed at the dealer. Understand the dealer needs to submit the info to GM that they have completed the Inspection and the engine "Passed" so there may be some lag between the dealer inspection visit and when the Warranty info shows up on your App. Give it 2-4 weeks would be my guess.

I believe someone posted previously that if your engine fails the inspection, the dealership is supposed to keep your vehicle until they can complete the engine replacement. So, hopefully that means they are able to provide a loaner vehicle. But I would expect this may vary from dealer to dealer.

I believe GM really does not want to let engines that "Fail" back on the road because this could set both the Dealer and GM up for liability if someone gets hurt or worse.

Kind of not great because you may be fighting about Loaner/Rentals for a while if the engines are not readily available. At best case, if the dealer has an engine in a few days, and there are techs available, the engine swap is close to 20 hours, so you are looking for at least a week down time without your vehicle. Add engine availability delays, then the days keep ticking.

Good luck to anyone that needs an engine replaced, hopefully GM can get them to the dealers within 2-4 days if there is sufficient inventor. My guess is GM will catch up at some point, but they will then drop production back once they "Think" they have enough engines. They do not want to build more engines that absolutely necessary.

don’t be so daft my friend. If you think wasting time with tire-kickers and other cesspits off Craigslist until you finally find a serious buyer is the only way to get decent return on your vehicle you need to step out of the Square Body Age.

Vehicles are depreciating assets, they lose value, so that point is moot. If selling a vehicle at 60% of its value is in line with the market, then it’s the best outcome scenario. The key is to know what it’s actually worth.

CM purchase offers are usually right at book value, +/- a small percentage depending on “factors”. So if I need to sell, a written offer from CM is a good bargaining chip. As stated, I’ve used a decent written offer from Carmax at other dealerships to get an even higher purchase price.

Try it some time.

I couldn't imagine selling my vehicle private party. People like to play games and waste time. I'd sell to the dealer for the sales tax savings alone. You have to factor in that number, as well, when you are considering a trade-in vs selling privately. I don't want to deal with listing, meeting people, answering questions, etc. I'm fine with trading in to the dealer, saves so many headaches and time, imo.

I live in the country and I don’t want strangers coming to my residence and like you say dither, kick the tires, test drive, doubt my word - and then start the process all over again. My dealer for my future 2026 encouraged me to check out all the other sale options and believes he can do as well on a trade in. Having done both ways before I believe him. If I give up a few dollars it is worth it to me.

I wasn’t advocating for selling to private party. That’s what I was advocating against. . . (Well, that and trading to a dealer.)

I hear you. I would buy a clean GMT800 all day long with under 150k miles on it.

I saw a 1995 Buick Roadmaster last week that had 14,000 miles on it. It was in as delivered condition. The guy had it for about 8 years, got if from a widow whos husband died with about 8,000 miles on it about 8 years ago. The problem is he does not want daily drive the Roadmaster!!!

My son has a 1996 Impala SS with about 110,000 miles, this is his daily, he loves it. Takes 6 hour road trips all the time. At least the 1996 is OBDII.
So did you buy the Roadmaster?

If I had a bigger garage I’d love to have one and restore the interior /exterior if necessary, do some exhaust upgrades and drive it! The Roadmaster is one of those gems from the past that is such a cool project!

Still waiting for the second letter.

Gotta say my 2024 with the 6.2l is definitely the best handling, most comfortable and awesome vehicles I’ve ever owned! I have about 15k miles on it now. My wife still comments about how quiet and smooth the ride is. This Tahoe is beautiful inside and out and even with the stock exhaust it still gets me excited every time I crank it up - love this truck!

The power and smooth performance of the 6.2l is amazing and I tow a 6.5k boat/trailer at least once a month and twice a month now as boating and fishing conditions are summertime good .
Instrument shows towing fuel economy, what it doesn’t show is how effortless the Tahoe tows!

nice fish! :)

BacDoc - what is the second GM letter you're talking about? I've got the one back in my that mentions the recall but says "parts to repair your vehicle are not currently available".

I've also just called another dealer in the area asking about their readiness and they say they are still waiting on the GM. With that said, I'm confused how other members are getting their vehicle tested : are not all dealers getting the same communication from GM?

The second letter is the green light for the individual owner to take in for recall. It’s gms way of metering the thru put at the dealerships.

got it, thanks! I'm still confused though why both dealers I talked too still say that are waiting for instructions from GM but I'm reading posts from people who have successfully taken their car for inspection..weird.

Maybe they're saying that your VIN isn't on the "ready" list yet. The Recall Notice specifies the procedure they need to use -- any of us can look at that and know what's to be done.

They said this without me telling them my VIN. Unless they pulled it up by my phone number..hmm.. I guess I'll wait for my second GM letter at this point
