I’m still waiting to hear from someone first hand who failed the Knock sensor and received/scheduled for, replacement engine. I think the pico test is eyewash and gm is just replacing engines when they fail. The knock sensor nonsense is to satisfy the highway safety board.

I don't see how it could possibly take 2-3 days for testing to be completed. Maybe the dealership could let it sit for 2-3 days before they get around to it, but the inspection procedure itself should take about an hour. There is a video posted of the actual inspection procedure, and this document specifically states 0.9 hours of labor time for the inspection (Labor Operation 9107931). Now, I'm sure the first few times an individual technician does it, it could take a little longer until they get the hang of it, but not 2-3 days to perform one inspection.

EDIT: Also note that the 0.9 hours is inclusive of doing the oil change to 0W-40 oil assuming the engine passes, so the inspection time is technically even less than an hour.

The owner of my dealership said we arent gonna do many at 18.6 hours for the engine and 1.5 for 1234yf when customer pay is 26 hours for the engine and 1234yf is 2 hours.

Fair enough. Is 1234yf the inspection? If so, 2 hours sounds reasonable for that, but 2-3 days does not.

Plus the shop supplies surcharge, the hazardous waste surcharge, and the credit card payment surcharge.

Plus even if you have a great dealer service department with competent technicians do you really want someone from that department disconnecting everything relevant, pulling the motor, replacing and reconnecting everything involved?

The guys in Texas who install the motor on the assembly line in proper sequence and mostly do motor install are the guys you really want doing that work. At least that’s what I think.

Anyway still waiting for my second letter on my 2024 High Country. If it fails I will probably trade it in and use this whole debacle for leverage. Fortunately for me and at this point in my life I have time and financial ability to play this game. I really wish I didn’t have to as I absolutely love the 6.2l and this platform. The only thing better is the Escalade V.

Question --
I know this has been asked and answered, pages and pages backwards; but I'm gonna ask again (sorry)
As part of my OnStar monthly status, the Recall section has Changed.
My VIN used to say Incomplete, Remedy not yet available .... as many others have seen.

Today, I checked and it now says "Incomplete" .... nothing more.
Does this mean I'm now able to get it tested? 2nd letter is in the mail?

Also, I have 2-4 GMC / Chevy dealers near me, and I'm having a tough time deciding where to go. Looking at reviews, most talk about their buying experience, not the service department. Any ideas to use, to dig down to Service Dept reviews?
Thanks

Might do a little investigating by visiting service departments at the dealerships and talk to service advisor to see if they will tell you how many of the 6.2 engine they have replaced and to me the one that has replaced the most would have most experience at repairing your vehicle.

Yep, good idea. I have already stopped at one Dealer, but my VIN wasn't released. They had done two; tested maybe 8.
2nd Recall letter is in today's mail... oh boy. Engine or Pass...30k miles right now

Received my second letter yesterday. Will call the dealer tomorrow to get an appointment and keep everyone posted on the results.
Just received my second letter as well. Must have released another wave....Going back and forth on if I should go back to 0W20 for the pico test. Anybody have knowledge if oil viscosity could mask pico results?

I would definitely switch back to 0w20 as the 0w40 could mask the Pico test. If it fails the test with 0w20 you get a new motor if it passes then they will put 0w40 back in with the new updated docs.and oil cap etc. With 0w40 it could be hiding the problem with the engine on borrowed time. Put 0w20 back in before the test.

FYI, took my 2022 Yukon AT4 (XL) to get the pico test yesterday. Took them all day but apparently my engine passed the pico test (60k ish miles). They changed the oil to 0W40 and my warranty now goes to 150k miles. Was kind of hoping for a new engine but I'll take the warranty.

Everybody passes the pico test. Still haven’t heard first hand anybody who is getting a new engine based solely on a failed test.

Has anyone been able to see their pico results? I'm interested to see what passing criteria is compared to my results. Passing with flying colors or just made the hurdle? Not sure if it works that way....

If it fails then you wait 60 days for an engine. We have had one ordered for 30 days. This truck wasnt even under the recall.

normally with a vibration analysis... you want to run the item - say a gear box.. at load.. with a full load.. you monitor different parts of it.. near the shafts.. for instance looking for bearing noises..

at rather doubt setting an engine at 2,000 rpm.. which brings up the oil pressure will find much of anything... there is no load on the bearing.

they are only monitoring one spot... not all around the engine. a red herring more likely.... some government guru nodding with agreement that this does something for customer.
