I bet that a large portion of these "claims" from outside the recall window are coming from people looking to cash-in on their cars at GMs expense.

Remember the whole Toyota "unintended acceleration" hoax that happened is like 2010 or 2011. It started by someone crashing their car then saying that Toyotas drive-by-wire electronic throttle pedal malfunctioned causing their car crash.

Yeah, then people came out of the woodwork claiming the same thing happened to them trying to cash that Toyota money check. Turned out if was a complete fabrication and those claims quietly went away.

Never underestimate the desire, and lengths individuals will go, to profit from whatever they can at whoever's expense.

From the 2025 first oil filters I have cut open, the 2025's did not look promising for long term survival with the amount of metal and debris in the filter elements. The oil analysis did not look bad, but at 500 miles, you get a lot of wear in metals in the oil samples anyway. I will have a 4500 mile oil sample to review here soon on one of the 2025 that I have inspected the oil filter on and I have to get the 2nd oil filter and cut it open and inspect it as well.

This is not on my vehicle, but someone I know quite well.
IMG_1434.JPGDid a quick oil change at 300 miles after I got my replacement L87. This was how dark my oil was. Just 300 miles. Sorry didn't do analysis this time.

Ouch! Something clearly does not add up. The dealer either did not replace the radiator and oil cooler lines and/or something is cooking the oil IMHO. But again, the oil may look darker in the drain pan than it really is and/or drain pan had other dirty oil in it. Who knows???

This is what the oil color on the dipstick looks like on my 2024 6.2l after around 1500 since the last oil change and a total mileage on the engine of around 11,500 miles. But caveat I changed the oil 4 times in under 11k miles. Oil changed at the following mileages: 540 miles, 3,484 miles, 5,923 miles and 10,093 miles. So my engine/crankcase/oil cooler and lines are probably cleaner than the typical 7,500 mile oil change. But also understand what the filter does not catch, stays in the crankcase and will only be removed with oil drains and frequent oil drains.

And this oil after 1500 miles, after replacing and the engine is new, it has a mileage of 2000 miles)

In the 60s and 70's it was thought by adding transmission fluid in the oil would help with dirt and sludge and quiet hydraulic lifter tapping. Contrary to some belief that ATF had cleaning/detergent properties, it really did not, it was only a very light weight mineral oil.

Some people would even put Diesel, Marvel Mystery Oil or SeaFoam in the crankcase 100-500 miles before an oil change thinking they may be helping things get cleaner, it might but it may also be at the expense of reducing the engine protection as well.

If someone is changing their oil frequently, there is no need to add anything to the crankcase before an oil change, especially if the oil is changed every 1500 miles or less. Just drive the vehicle 20-30 minutes to fully warm up the oil before and oil change.

If the vehicle is getting super low miles because of lack of use, start the engine and drive the vehicle for 20-30 minutes every few weeks and change the oil annually and you will be fine.

He said he changes it twice a year at 800-1200 mile intervals. Still doesn't explain why he is adding tranny oil before he changes it. That is a new one to me.....
I’ve heard of transmission fluid being used as a motor flush before oil changes. 2 times a year at 8-1200 mile intervals sounds like he doesn’t do much driving at all to me.

In the old days, 1970's, it was common when buying a used car to add a quart of trans fluid to clean the sludge before an oil change. The oil was not what it is today. If you are using a synthetic oil, your not going to get a better cleaner than that. I wouldn't use trans fluid in any modern car. If I was worried about lack of oil changes on a used car, I would just change oil more frquently.

Hey, been a while but seems like things have calmed a bit on the recall front so bringing my 2023 Denali in for the test tomorrow . Question, my car threw the “loss of propulsion” code when they did my oil change at a .. chevy.. dealer a few months back (it’s closer to my house ).. Is this any indicator that I may fail the motor test? FYI, motor test is at the GMC dealer that replaced the engine on my first 2023 Denali. This is my 2nd 2023 Denali. Still loving the truck despite all this

When you say it "threw the loss of propulsion code", what does that mean exactly?

Actually thanks for making me double check. I thought my truck put the code out but just pulled my paperwork print out and it’s under type “safety recall” - fair to disregard.

This happened 4/29/25 and the recall was issued 4/24 without a remedy at that point . Chevy dealer basically shrugged, very little awareness of the 6.2 “loss of propulsion” recall in late April. It felt they were being genuine, service dept had no clue .

I have been following this thread since the beginning and I got my first letter about the recall last spring when the issue and recall was officially announced.

Yesterday I got the letter telling me to make the appointment.

When I called, I asked what happens if it fails inspection and they have to keep it longer than a day or more.
Will the dealership ( (I bought the Tahoe from them) provide a loaner?
The service person told me it shouldn’t take longer than a day or 2 if it fails and they would give me more information when I bring it in next Monday.

One of the reasons I got the Tahoe was the 6.2l engine and towing package.
Hauling gear and getting my boat in the water and the Tahoe with 6.2l and trailer package with air suspension did that job 100%

Hopefully it passes inspection but if it doesn’t I really need a tow vehicle for my 6500lb boat/trailer as this is one of the best fishing seasons in this area and I don’t want to miss any opportunity to get out there!

If you are an avid Florida fisherman and you miss some of the few calm offshore sea conditions in fall because your truck is in the shop - this is as not something a service manager ever wants to get involved in.
As Mr T would say “God pity the fool!”
Angrier than a hornet or a leftist ****** at a no kings protest!

Anyway, hope it passes because the bite is on and I need to get my boat in the water! Fishing is a helluva drug!

So they may give you a loaner but no way they will have it ready in a day or two if they have to replace the engine.

I highly doubt that a failed inspection would only put me without a truck for only a day or two and I have no idea why that service rep would say that.
Maybe they have not had many failures yet or maybe they have parts for a “quick” fix.

Either way I am not happy customer and even though my dealer service department is very good based on my history with them, I certainly don’t want them to fix or replace the 6.2l in my Tahoe.

I’ve had this Tahoe HC for over a year and I really love everything about it but I am seriously considering trading it in due to this situation.
My biggest concern is that I don’t think there is any difference between the 2024 and ‘25 or ‘26 Tahoe 6.2l engines.
My truck has everything but 4WD and Super Cruise. I don’t want 4WD but I really regret not getting Super Cruise.

Good news, passed the L87 recall test. Thought it’d be fun to get a new engine but I guess glad I don’t have to deal with that headache. Here’s a quick reminder, for folks with the basic 3 years / 36k miles warranty - bring those trucks in for repairs or any thing worth a look well before. At 38k, I got side tracked and finally in for them to look at the lumbar on the drivers seat that stopped working. Replacing the module .. $750. Feels like I live in this Denali sometimes so I’m fine with paying, but annoying it would’ve been covered if I brought it in a month or two earlier. Get that warranty work done well before !!
