I have a 09' suburban with the dual zone climate up front. driver side hot while passenger side is cold (set for full AC). I tried switching the actuator, however that didn't help, even after letting it relearn by staying in on position by 2 mins (verified by hearing actuators set) and it didn't work, also didn't work by spinning the door myself. So I'm trying to find if I can make a hole on the underside of the door, I've heard it could be done but I can't find where to cut and I don't want to slice open the heater core because I winged it. I wanted to see if either anyone knew where to cut and can give generalized positions and dimensions or if they have a picture of a cut or a outline of where it should be. Anything helps. Thanks.

Disclaimer: I know the proper way to do it is removing the dash but i don't have the time to and shops want over 1k for the job otherwise. Will do that if I have to but trying to avoid it

@swathdiver is pretty knowledgeable on blend door operation and troubleshooting, and he may be able to offer some perspective on your issue.

Not sure if you have a similar set up to my 05 Tahoe (sold now). I had “2” actuators in the front… one was accessible lower passenger side, front console area - a little tough to get at. The other was much more difficult - center of dash behind radio and heater vents - really hard to get at and re+re this second unit. Can be done of you’re patient and resourceful. Had to modify a small combination wrench to remove the last screw on the top left.

Suggest watching YouTube videos for both. Some a$$hat suggest cutting everything in sight for the upper - DON’T ! Watch 4 or 5 before deciding a method of attack.

P.S. in an original post - I got “corrected” by somebody here- one is called an actuator, other is called a moderator - no difference, parts are identical and interchangeable - both worked fine after my surgery…Good Luck!

I have never been successful in doing manual relearns, always had to use the Tech-2. The driver's side actuator is at the bottom of the passenger's footwell. The passenger actuator is underneath the airbag near the fresh air actuator.

I recommend pulling the internal BCM codes before getting out the butcher knife. Use only GM OE actuators.
