It's going to improve as you drive it, especially the transmission. That's my favorite part.

As for performance, my LC9 is rated at 310 SAE Net Horsepower. I see guys with camshafts, tunes, exhausts, headers making 270-280 on various dynos. Mine made 307 Rear Wheel Horsepower through the traps in the quarter mile. Basically smoking those guys. Last time out it was a little down on power, 296 HP, I think the muffler is falling apart internally as you can hear the whoosh as she races by, the sign of a restricted exhaust.

I assume the tune was static, I had no idea that performance can improve with driving. That's pretty interesting.

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) learns as your drive, following your tune. As @swathdiver stated, drive the truck, and in a few days, your TCM will have completed its learning phase. The most noticeable improvement is how the transmission performs when you step on the pedal.

For example, you will note in a WOT test that your transmission will allow the engine to go completely to the red line, before shifting. The stock tune allows the engine to go only to 5500 rpms max, before shifting, thus not taking advantage of the last 500 rpms at the top of the power curve.

There are other performance improvements you will note, as you become familiar with the new tune. My tune was set up for 93 octane (stock setup was for 87 octane, though 91 octane was 'recommended'), so my performance improvement was quite noticeable.

I received my first tune from them without a requirement to log again. I don’t believe that was a “canned” tune. I did log again and send in for a refined tune and some trans changes. I can’t say I noticed any difference between the two tunes. I have since reverted the trans tune to the first one they sent and retained the second engine tune.

But your first tune was after a successful log file sent in, correct? If that’s the case it then wasn’t a canned tune. In the case of @S1W99, the original log file he sent in was corrupted so they had nothing to go off of except a stock tune for his engine/trans.

Yes, I had a successful log file. I didn’t mean to allude to it being canned. I don’t believe it was.

I'm glad that you clarified that, regarding a canned tune, as I was positive that I received a custom tune from BB, after initially discussing the entire process with Justin.

I was too and I never thought about it being canned. I guess it would be easy enough to send canned tunes. I suppose they have learned what works and what doesn’t along the way.

An update on the BBT:

After speaking with the guy who answers the phone about the files he sent I found out that the tune he sent wasn't "canned" as it is a custom tune for the year make and model I have. After sending a log file running the new tune he was not able to find anything to change. He said it all looked good. I can definitely tell that it is quicker anytime I want it to be. It "may" get better mpg but I haven't put any hwy miles on it yet. I'll. be driving to St. Augustine FL in a few weeks and will see how it does. I looked at the file of what all is changed and there were dozens of setting that had updates. In fact I'll attache a PDF of all the items modified.
I get a slight knock sometimes from a standstill when 1st engages, not always. Everything else is smooth. This was his reply: " suspect that is your slip yoke coming out of the transmission."

Thinking about eh Corvette servo mod. I like the smooth shifts now but wouldn't mind the change it if will be better for my transmission.

By canned tune, that’s exactly what I meant. It’s a generic tune for the vehicle you’re driving, which is most likely fine if you don’t have anything like power adders (cam, FI, etc) or a stall or built transmission and you’re running stock diameter tires and such. But if thats the case, what’s the point of doing a datalog in the first place? They could just ask questions and base the tune off that if you’re all stock.

He said I was getting a lot of pinging and I told him I was using 87 from Sam's club. And he said yeah the stuff from Sam's club and Costco is really cheap gas and he said I needed to go up to 89 at least so I did.

If he advised you to upgrade the quality of your gas, do it.

These things need 89 or higher in stock form, especially if you put it under any load in hot weather. Accelerating up a minor grade in NC during the summer can make it knock on anything less than 91.

You gotta do that. That is when you will really feel the difference. It can actually be somewhat intimidating, but huge fun.

Sam's gasoline is not Top Tier rated. It could be, but it is not guaranteed. Quality also makes a difference, not just octane rating.

Timing on mine is aggressive, while I cannot hear any knock, the Tech-2 will show it on WOT runs with 1-2 degrees of retard on 93 with Lucas Octane Booster. Can't wait to switch back to E85 soon. We need the range.
