Went to the Knapp Motors and Smithchevy site to get a quote for our Tahoe, quote request just went around and around back to the opening page or will respond later, no real pricing info obtained without calling I suppose. Anyone have any actual luck getting a quote? Are these sites actually selling the GMPP or is this a bait for some aftermarket misery?

I’m curious about this as well.

I’m also curious to know whether or not their GMPP runs in conjunction with the standard manufacturer warranty or if you can buy one to go into effect after the manufacturer warranty ends.

Black Cadillac was the GM warranty. They all start at zero miles, not after the 3/36 ends. So a 6/72 adds 3/36 to the existing warranty.

I KNOW you are right in that used to be the case, just wasn't for sure if that changed in the last couple years.
Yeah, can't comment on anything in the last 5 years.

Did get a quote good till 4/29, says the rates are going up a bunch on May 1st too. The warranty is now GMEPP and the listed time and mileage starts on the day of warranty purchase. This is a warranty for a non new vehicle that's still under the original new car 3 year B2B deal. Platinum or Silver coverage with the Platinum somewhat close to the original warranty with some exclusions. This is a GM warranty handled by AMT, not the Ally finance version.

Where they hook you though is mileage. Most owners blow past those mileage limits well before the time frames allowed. They really should be based on 15K a year...

These mileage limits work fine for us, our Tahoe now has 18k miles on it. But the rates do seem pretty steep I think, maybe there are lots of problems expected down the road?

I feel like 75k miles is too low to spend $3,500 in coverage

Also - i never read any one of those contracts but if you ever get into a car accident does that void any part of the warranty? Or is coverage still good but you have to have it repaired by a GM service center?

Read through the contract pretty close and didn't see any mention of accident damage. There are quite a few exclusions that are normally covered in the B2B new car warranty coverage. Haven't decided on anything yet. If it weren't for the AFM and the reported transmission problems I'd not be at all worried about the warranty. I'm pretty good with a wrench (and a hammer) myself.

Hey guys new to the forum I just purchased a 2022 Yukon xl and the only extended warranty they offered me was through ally I was skeptical as I felt it was a 3rd party warranty they sold it to me for about 7k for 7 years or 100k miles whichever comes first it seems alot to me I’m considering canceling it the guy at the dealer told me it’s through gmc which I don’t really believe I’m located in California and when I go on gmc website to try to get there extended warranty it says I need to contact a dealer for my state everything was offered through ally even the maintenance part any advice would be appreciated

This is where we are going to get hosed. We estimated around 7500 miles per year based on the mileage we put on our suburban over 9 years of ownership. But now it's looking like at least 15k on the '21 in our first year of ownership. If this keeps up we'll basically have paid $2K for and extra year of coverage. I should just cancel the policy, get a refund and set aside $$ for an out of pocket repair down the road

If you actually paid $7k for it, I may think about cancelling, receiving the refund, and purchasing another at the indicated quoted prices above...or shop around...$7k way too high...Or, cancel, and put the $7k in a mutual fund, and self insure yourself...if you financed the service contract, cancel it, get your payment adjusted, and put the payment difference in a mutual fund investment account...

I got into this a couple weeks ago and it seems that California is a much different situation from most other states. But Ally and the GMPP are very similar except for the payment setup to the dealer service shop from what I read. I got with Laurel Chevrolet out in Montana and got our actual GM extended warranty for a really good price compared to others. My selling/local dealer wouldn't even return my call so I went looking online and got with them. $7000 is absurd - unless they're seeing some really high repair rates.

I agree I contacted another gmc dealer that is closer to me and they quoted me $3130 if I paid in cash for 5 year or 100k mike warranty with gm and it kicks in once the factory warranty is over so I will be going that I will be going into that dealer this week in person to talk it over with the guy I spoke to over the phone

I'm really wondering if anyone has ever made any experience with the extended warranty from GM. On paper it sounds great but the fact that the warranty is underwritten by Ally financial gives me doubts. They could always blame the insurance company for not covering anything. And if I do some research I found a lot that sounds more like a rip off: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/gm-warranty.html

I got a quote from CarMax/MaxCare and a GMEPP Plan. Both plans are based on a current odometer reading of 21,000 miles.
The MaxCare plan is either 5 years or the mileage below (whatever comes first).

MaxCare seems to be way cheaper especially with more miles. Advantage of MaxCare is that one can use it with every CarMax shop, every repairpal certified shop and even with the OEM dealership whereas the GM plan could only be used by GMC.

As for the price see for yourself... what do you think about it?

MaxCare:

$50 Deductible

Odometer Plan cost

75,000 $2,089.00 $.00

100,000 $2,529.00 $.00

125,000 $2,969.00 $.00

150,000 $4,139.00 $.00

Do you really trust Carmax fixing your highly specialized and technical
GM vehicle without all the information that GM techs are privy to?

No. That's why you can utilize the MaxCare and go to a Chevy Dealership or any other shop that you trust, too. So where's the difference other than price?

There’s always a possibility that the dealer may not accept it or put you at the back of the line until he is sure he will get paid. With 3rd party warranties, especially ones they aren’t familiar with, the dealer doesn't have to accept what they offer as payment and could balance bill you or put you in the middle to fight it out since it’s your warranty, not the dealers….
