Anyone know what this center rib is behind the center console smaller pocket on top that's in between the two

It looks like just a support to hold the console in. Looks like it has bolt holes in it.

That's what it looked like to me. I was thinking about cutting it out to make room but wasn't sure if that would hurt anything

It may not hurt anything, but I wouldn't do it. Probably would make it shake or really loose when driving, just my opinion tho.

Took a closer look and doesn't look like there is anything behind it. For whatever reason GM made the top pocket on the center console short and this is just to support that. I'm going to cut it back to make the pocket deeper.

UPDATE:
I cut into this area (small cut first) to see if there would be any issue. Nothing was behind there and looked like it was just a support for the shallower pocket on top. I cut it out and no issues with rattling while driving or anything like that. I'll post some pictures later.
