So how durable is the stock roof rack? I’m going to be cob assing a 270 awning next weekend for a test run. I’m going to U-bolt the hardware to the existing crossbars. Want to make sure that this thing isn’t going to take flight on the trip to the campsite.

I put a stock roof rack on my slick top PPV, then added an awning a couple of years ago.

The rails are attached with rivnuts just like oem.

So I mounted the thing. Drilled the cross rails. Shimmed and bolted. Ran a little over an hour and a half on varied speeds. Used it this weekend. Holding up grand.

Follow up. The bolt at the rear of the passenger side front rail support is now loose. Squeaked the entire drive back. Other than that so far the awning mounts are holding up great.

Maybe some Loctite would help.
