So I picked up an AutoMeter Vac/Boost gauge a couple months ago. I haven't really had the time to wire it up. It has a MAP sensor, and says it needs to be wired in to a circuit that comes on with ignition and stays on once the engine is started. When you first turn the key, it calibrates the MAP sensor, to account for differences in barometric pressure.

I was thinking I could wire it into either the fuel pump circuit, but wasn't sure if adding more power draw would put more stress on the fuel relay. Anyone have any ideas where and how I could wire this thing in?

tap off the gauges fuse #4 10 amp line. it has an appropriate name and there should be plenty of amperage allowance. do you really think think the instrument system uses enough amperage to take up all of a 10 amp fuse which is equivalent to 2.5times the amperage draw of one headlight bulb? it will operate when system is "on" but not in "accessories". for illumination of the gauges? hmmm. i heard of another fuse called illumination. it even works off the dimmer rheostat circuit. i wonder how that will turn out.

you will be fine. if you added so much that it did blow you could relay the power supply using the "on" circuit or gauges circuit as a relay trigger. nothing to worry about tho really.

you know i have been debating about doing the same thing with regards to the vortec equipped obs to start because of the ground it covers. it was going to include wiring, splice and ground pics, harness routing and terminal call-outs all from the factory service manual. but i am not really in to doing it. would help a lot but even tho i have time on my hands and a web site to put it on i for some reason am not in the mood to do it. easy to do if you just print it out and file folder it . but having to do it and publish it thru adobe dreamweaver now is dragging me down. maybe one day.
