The wife just passed along the 05 Tahoe 4wd to me with 122k miles. We are the only owners, all stock, nothing ever done but brakes and tires. So after going back and forth on new truck payment or Mods on my paid for hoe, mods it is. After trolling forever, here is what I hope to go with. I don't tow or offroad, these are looks/performance/budget modifications:

Pro Comp Level Keys 2.5"
Rear spacer if needed
Bilstein 5100's all the way around
Pro Comp wheels in flat black- 17's (Factory 16's now)
285/70/17 Terra Grapplers

Magnaflow cat back dual exhaust

BlackBear Tune

What do you think? I went with 17's since that is a stock size on LTZ models and figure it shouldn't affect ride much. Would I gain or lose anything by going with 18"s and a 275/70/18? Any suggestion other than Flowmaster? I had them before on a truck, not too obnoxious, just looking to lesson the restriction and add a little rumble with least amount of drone.

Any opinions appreciated. Hope to get done in the next couple weeks.

magnaflow > flowmaster. just get a 22" magnaflow will sound nice but not be too loud.

17's will be a bit more cost efficient and you've got more selection in a 285 70 17. i'd stick with that. if you want to go bigger wheels, skip 18's and go to the 20's. your ride will be more effected by cranking the torsion keys than anything else.

I would just do the 20's instead of the 17's or 18's the ride tires cost about the same amount and Tahoe's come stock with them.
Also I would do a 3" or a 3.5" lift ( Spindle ) .
Other mods I say do it.
My wife's Tahoe has a flow master and it sounds good but not to loud and next to no drone inside the cabin of the Tahoe.

The a 3 or a 3.5" lift you should be able to fit 33" tires.

In my weariness I incorrectly put Flowmaster, I corrected the post to show Magnaflow, which is what I meant.

I looked into Spindles, my understanding is they are for 2wd only???

Thanks

nah spindles work for 2 or 4 wheel drive, i've got 2 inch drop spindles on my hoe with a 4x4

also when you do the keys, i highly recommend finding a lift and if you cant find an actual tool for it at a local auto parts store buy a big c-clamp, and a 5ton gear puller (or a 7 ton if you can find one)

if you use the 7 ton it should be sufficient, but me and my buddy just did keys on his truck, use the 5 ton puller on the dimple for actually lifting it, and use the c-clamp on the bolt dimple, turn both of them in at rates that keep pressure off of only one, so basically increasew both at the same time and it wont seem so sketchy, when its high enough, pull the c-clamp and using a wrench or a pair of pliers push the block underneath and let the tension off the gear puller, seems to be the least sketchy way with the most sketchy tools
