Aftermarket Oil Pickup Tube Support Brackets -- Worthwhile? Compatibility w/ Original Tube?

Y'all,

I'm stocking up on parts for when I pull the pan to do the oil pickup o-ring and am considering installing an aftermarket pickup tube support bracket. I've only found two threads on the forum that mention these, only one of which shows an actual installation (and also features a replacement tube), so information is a bit sparse.

There are mainly two styles: two-bolt that bridge the tube, and single-bolt that supplements on one side only. See here, here, and here. Looking at the customer feedback, many truck pickups have an extra bracket on the tube which interferes with these. Is this bracket on the pickup tube used for installation at the factory, or does it rest on the oil pan and provide support that way? Looking at replacement tubes in the aforementioned thread and on RockAuto, the pictures don't show this extra bracket. FWIW, my engine is an LMG.

Thoughts?

I bought the Improved Racing EGM-500 for mine. This one can be done with the front cover still on the motor.

However, when the day came to replace the o-ring, the darn thing was nowhere to be found and it didn't get installed! Probably sitting in a good place so I don't lose or misplace it still!

Either should be fine. Honestly, unless you are using your vehicle for some high rpm racing, drifting or something else wild, you probably are fine with the stock pickup tube style connection.

I've never personally heard of a pickup tube falling off in regular use. I do add a tiny drop of loctite on that bolt on the engines I've put together.

But the aftermarket don't hurt either.

Thanks for the input. Keeping the flange of the pickup tube pressed evenly across the oil pump is my concern. Having only one bolt on one side seems non-optimal, no matter whether it falls off.

I would definitely get one, as 1 bolt holding a pickup tube and collection head, bouncing around inside the vibrating motor, has to have a life-shortening impact on the O-ring, IMO. I installed one on mine when I replaced the O-ring and deleted to oil pressure relief valve located in the oil pan. There are a couple of different designs, but they all accomplish the same result.

I purchased the two-bolt version from Summit Racing, but there are multiple suppliers.
