Advice on Forged wheels/ New member

Hello everyone,

I am new member to the forum. I found out about the site a few days ago, you guys have some very nice rides, but I didn't feel right joining without actually having a tahoe or yukon lol, but that changed yesterday when I pulled the trigger on a 2011 LTZ Tahoe. I don't have too many plans for mods right now besides tinting the front driver and passenger windows, add an intake filter, exhaust system and 26'' rims over the course of 2012.

I would like some forged wheels since they are lighter and have more strength than their cast counterparts. I was looking towards D2Forged wheels in either chrome or the brushed aluminum style, I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with that brand or could reccommend any other forged brand that would be worthy of purchasing. Also, with forged wheels would I need to upgrade my brakes as well ?

Welcome, Well I have heard that the D2 makes some quality rims. Haven't had any personal experience with them though. What color is your Tahoe? I would lean more towards the aluminum brushed since I'm not a big fan of the chrome but since u have an LTZ that thing is loaded with lots of chrome already.

I don't have experience with 26"s. but a buddy of mine own a wheels shop and always had 26"s on his Escalade. He swore that braking wasn't a problem, but, personally, there's no way I'd go to 26"s without upgrading the brakes. The oem brakes are mediocre enough, so I can't imagine adding that much more rolling mass without making the brakes better.

Also, since you got an LTZ, you've got a decent amount of chrome on the truck. It's all personal choice, but I don't understand putting brushed wheels on a truck that has only chrome bright pieces on it. If the trim was brushed, then brushed wheels would be the only way to go for me. But for me, chrome trim should have chrome wheels complimenting it.

My buddy with the 26"s always had some form of black & brushed wheels on his Escalade. Whereas the wheels looked great by themselves, they never looked right to me on the truck because the brushed aspects didn't go with anything.

Just something to consider, maybe.

KMeloney, I thought about that as well after looking at the wheels. I think I will more than likely go with the chrome as well. I love how the wheels look and would like to go with a different company besides lexani, asanti, forgiato...basically the standard major player wheel companies out there lol. I am going to check on brake upgrade prices as well today.

edgaranah1, I have the new mocha steel color. I also have herd about the quality of D2forged, but many people don't have the means to purchase them right now. I've tried to research them along the truck lines, but I haven't seen any trucks with them installed currently.

if you plan on running a big brake kit, you better have those custom forged wheels built to clear the calipers. We had 24" Asanti's on our burban and then did a 16" wilwood brake kit. The Asanti's would not clear the calipers, so we had to sell them (CHEAP) and bought a new set of 3pc Intro wheels that were built to clear the brakes.

The Asanti's would not clear the calipers, so we had to sell them (CHEAP) and bought a new set of 3pc Intro wheels that were built to clear the brakes.

Thanks for the additional info superchargedss, that's a pretty sweet burban you have. I like the wheels a lot. It's good to have wheels that standout from everyone else in the city. I think I am going to shoot for the brake kit once I decide which wheel I want for sure.

I agree 100% in regards to the Chrome Wheels and NOT brushed.

I have 3 different sets of 3 piece forged wheels in my driveway right now. HRE, Modulare and ADV1s. The last set for the Yukon was ordered through www.wheelexperts.com . They can do custom orders from many builders giving you the option to investigate them all in one place.

I have always used HRE on my Vettes and Viper. As far as an SUV (26's) I don't understand the use unless you have money to burn. You can purchase a nice set of 26's and spend the rest of the money on suspension, stereo, performance, interior and ect. Again its all about preference

Nice truck NASTY GM. I wouldn't say I have money to "burn" lol. I'm sure many people don't have it to "burn" either..We have different ways to define what burning money is depending on the person lol

What wheels would you say are good 26's ? You have the dub bombers I see, they look nice on the nali. For now I think I'm going to leave the bose system and interior alone lol
