I'm looking to darken the factory tint on my back 5 windows. just looking for any input on the subject at all. difference between using 5% compared to 20%??? will 5% be too dark?? will 20% black the windows out pretty good?

i have 5% all the way around with the 5% strip across the front your back is gonna be darker with the tint over the factory. u will not be able to see in with 5% on the back. its all up to how you want it to be

with 20% over the factory tint, will i be able to see out of it at night??
the factory tint is pretty dark at night anyway. Putting any more tint on will just make it harder to see , unless you have rear spot lights!!
putting 20% over the factory tint will look good but will be real hard to see at night..
i will take a pic of my tint tonight and its 5% so u can see what that looks like looking out of it
Aww come on now, who needs to see out at night. I am running 5% all around, with 20% over that in all back windows. And have 5% top and bottom of front windshield, **** pit style!! Makes my ride MUCH cooler during the day, I live in AZ tho. At night, it's pretty much pitch black. I gotta roll down my side windows to reverse. Nice thing about it tho, you can't look inside my ride even during the day.
That would be sweet if I could get away with doing that!! My truck would look insane.!!
I would be pulled over and the truck would get towed BIG fine.. till it came off..
Mass is pretty strict. I'd never get a sticker either.

Heres my setup
Front two doors - 5%
Everything else has about 18% stock, with 20% ontop
Total would be 5% on ALL windows EXCEPT windshield
At night, its hard to see out of the back window...some people say you dont need to use the rear window, but I like being aware of my surroundings, I scan all THREE of my mirrors constantly...At night, anything other then stock SUCKS!! and I HAVE to roll down my front windows when reversing at night or I cant see sh*T!
However....outta sight, outta mind...if people cant see in, it sometimes turns people off from breaking in...they wouldnt wanna break into a vehicle if they cant see anything worth stealing...
(Someone saw my AVIC-Z2 Navigation and photography equipment...broke my window, stole all my shit)...if it was tinted, they probably would have passed by..its not crime proof, but its a HUGE deterrent.
It keeps vehicles MUCH cooler during the day...and although its not SMART to look directly AT the sun in ANY circumstance, you can look directly at the sun through my tint and see a perfectly sharp yellow circle with no blinding....and its not hot when it beats down through the window
California makes it illegal to put ANY percent of tint on your front windows for any reason...I've had it done for about 6 months and just got my first ticket...with my court date being 3 months after he wrote the ticket, thats an extra 3 months that I'm able to drive with it on and NOT get another ticket for it...till I go to court for the first offense
I've got out of 2 more tickets because I have a pending court date and they cant double up on the same offense...I'll get it written off in the last week

i think you are wrong on the front window tint. i have 2 people who have their front windshields tinted based on a dr recommendation. i am going to get mine this week, hopefully. sucks to have radiation burns on my eyes. i am never out side with out sun glasses, if i am i get horrible head aches

I stand corrected...you may have your windows tinted with a physicians letter...however, you may NOT drive your vehicle at night anymore....so thats pointless..either way...this is only California laws...for everyone else, check your DMV rules

26708. (a) (1) A person shall not drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows.
(2) A person shall not drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied in or upon the vehicle that obstructs or reduces the driver’s clear view through the windshield or side windows.
(3) This subdivision applies to a person driving a motor vehicle with the driver's clear vision through the windshield, or side or rear windows, obstructed by snow or ice.
(b) This section does not apply to any of the following:
(1) Rearview mirrors.
(2) Adjustable nontransparent sunvisors that are mounted forward of the side windows and are not attached to the glass.
(3) Signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver, signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the rear window farthest removed from the driver, or signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a 5-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver.
(4) Side windows that are to the rear of the driver.
(5) Direction, destination, or ( )1 terminus signs upon a passenger common carrier motor vehicle or a schoolbus, if those signs do not interfere with the driver’s clear view of approaching traffic.
(6) Rear window wiper motor.
(7) Rear trunk lid handle or hinges.
(8) The rear window or windows, if the motor vehicle is equipped with outside mirrors on both the left- and righthand sides of the vehicle that are so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway through each mirror for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of the vehicle.
(9) A clear, transparent lens affixed to the side window opposite the driver on a vehicle greater than 80 inches in width and that occupies an area not exceeding 50 square inches of the lowest corner toward the rear of that window and that provides the driver with a wide-angle view through the lens.
(10) Sun screening devices meeting the requirements of Section 26708.2 installed on the side windows on either side of the vehicle's front seat, if the driver or a passenger in the front seat has in his or her possession a letter or other document signed by a licensed physician and surgeon certifying that the person must be shaded from the sun due to a medical condition, or has in his or her possession a letter or other document signed by a licensed optometrist certifying that the person must be shaded from the sun due to a visual condition. The devices authorized by this paragraph shall not be used during darkness.
(11) An electronic communication device affixed to the center uppermost portion of the interior of a windshield within an area that is not greater than 5 inches square, if the device provides either of the following:
(A) The capability for enforcement facilities of the Department of the California Highway Patrol to communicate with a vehicle equipped with the device.
(B) The capability for electronic toll and traffic management on public or private roads or facilities.
(12) A portable Global Positioning System (GPS), which may be mounted in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver or in a 5-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest to the driver and outside of an airbag deployment zone, if the system is used only for door-to-door navigation while the motor vehicle is being operated ( )2.
(c) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the topmost portion of the windshield if the following conditions apply:
(1) The bottom edge of the material is at least 29 inches above the undepressed driver's seat when measured from a point 5 inches in front of the bottom of the backrest with the driver's seat in its rearmost and lowermost position with the vehicle on a level surface.
(2) The material is not red or amber in color.
(3) There is no opaque lettering on the material and any other lettering does not affect primary colors or distort vision through the windshield.
(4) The material does not reflect sunlight or headlight glare into the eyes of occupants of oncoming or following vehicles to any greater extent than the windshield without the material.
(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:
(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.
(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this subdivision and the certificate identifies the installing company and the material’s manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material’s manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed according to manufacturer’s instructions ( )3 meet the requirements of this subdivision and the certificate identifies the material’s manufacturer by full name and street address.
(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.

Ya, every state is different,. Don't think ANY state allows tint on front window without DR's note. I mean, I have a 8 inch strip on top and 6 inch strip on bottom of windshield, in AZ, and it's illegal as hell. tops are allowed, but only to mark on front windshield. Cops here aren't TOO crazy about it, but it's also not overdone, and also with these big windshield, and dashes, the bottoms hard to see. I use to have my whole windshield tinted with like 30%, but got a couple tickets for it, and pulled it off. Wasn't worth the hassle.
As far as back windows go, you should be able to tint those as dark as you want. I mean, look at panel vans, people with vinyl lined cars, you don't have to have rear windows, so you could technically paint them if you wanted to. You just need full view thru front windshield, and both driver/passenger side windows. That's it.
Also, by making the 5 rear windows as dark as possible, it in turn makes the others seem darker. It does kinda suck at night, but when I'm driving, I have no problems seeing out of any of my windows. bro i shouldnt be driving my truck half the time during the day as it is, but i do anyway. any one who has changed their headlights, taillights, steering wheel and a bunch of other stuff is in violation of laws. just because it says DOT does not mean it legal to drive on the high way. hell even HID's in factory housings are illegal

I would go with 20% if you really had to have tint. On my 15 year old Acura Legend (which came with no factory tint), I got 35% on the 2 front windows, and 20% on the 3 back windows. Because of the age of my windows, my highly recommended tint guys (shorelinemotoring.com) weren't able to get my $300 tint bubble-less, so make sure your windows are pristine and young if you get it done.

That stuff has nothing to do with it...we're talking about tint, not lights...and the fact is, cops will pull you over for tint, I dont know ANYONE on this website that has been pulled over because of their LED tails...or retro fitted projectors...
If a cop is going to ticket you for TINT, your *DRs NOTE* wont save you at night...
Don't get how it went to headlight, tailights and ANYTHING else that people change. But Blizzard has it right. Were takling about tint here. Anything could be construed as illegal, but tint is an obvious thing cops will look for, cause if they can't see inside your ride, obviously something aint right!!
All I can say is, know your state laws, and then know how far your willing to push it. I have super dark tint, but live in a super hot state and I'm willing to push the limits for comfort and security.

In Iowa you cannot have any tint on the front side windows or windshield but I have a tint exemption signed by a doctor and have my front sides and complete windshield done in 40% and its legal day or night. I usually do 35% which is what is supposed to be legal with an expemtion but depending on the cop if it reads at all under the 35% they will ticket you.

Its because at night, its harder to see in general....so if you have tint on your windows, its even more dangerous to everyone else around you at night
