Sorry for the dumb question; but I purchased an air filter via Amazon which according to GM/ACDelco site fit my 5.3L AT4. But when I went to replace the filter (1st time) it is different. The original has a pre-filter whereas the one I purchased does not. Appears to be identical, besides the pre-filter. I suspect this filter will work just fine, as I replace them long before the computer says so.

Just curious what you all think? Am I good?

GM ACDelco website search generates these two filters for a 5.3L. I attached pics.

Thanks!

RockAuto shows two ACDelco filter P/Ns for the 5.3L. The one with the foam pre-filter is considered the "High Capacity" filter. My guess is that the AT4 gets the high capacity filter and the other trim levels w/ 5.3L get the standard capacity filter. I have the 3.0L Duramax and it came from the factory with the high capacity filter.

So you think the reasoning behind a high capacity is it filters more air, or lasts longer? I can kinda see that the pre-filter/foam pad may provide better filtering when off roading in dirty environments. My AT4 will only see dusty mountain roads and gravel roads. I'll keep the standard filter installed and just plan to replace annually.

I really can't see the need for a pre-filter unless you live and drive in a very dusty area...lots of dirt roads.

Or of the air filter is manufactured with the purpose of high flow. Although layering on filters on top of the high flow filter seems to be purpose defeaticous (not a real word)

Or if you are using a CAI (Cold Air Intake) because many of those filters are too porous, allowing larger particles of debris to pass through.

If the air filter for your OEM airbox requires a pre-filter under normal driving conditions and is not a high-flow filter, I would look to a different brand.

When you ordered the filter, did you just look it up at Amazon or did you look at RA first and then post that part number in at Amazon? If you did the RA look up first, then the option gives you the RPO code to look for to get the correct filter.

What's strange is that on Amazon, both filter part numbers show they "do not" fit my Yukon. So I made sure to cross reference the parts on GM site, choosing the less expensive one.

NEVER trust Amazon for vehicle part fitment info. It's wrong more often than it's right. On top of that, be careful with buying important items like spark plugs, filters, etc. on Amazon. They have a high rate of counterfeit items on their site and they don't do anything about it.
