So here lately my transmission has been shifting pretty funny and most noticeably from 2nd to 3rd gear. Sometimes 1st to 2nd is hard as well but the 2-3 shift is worrying me because I know these transmissions like to blow the 3-4 clutch packs, And I've been told if it has started to go that I shouldn't change the fluid in the transmission because then I'll loose all the burnt clutch material in the trans fluid and essentially end up loosing third and fourth gear. I figured I would post this seeking any input or advice from you guys. I've been thinking about putting the corvette servo in and seeing if that would help but I'm afraid to touch the transmission for fear of blowing it so any input is welcome please and thank you

Have to ask, have you checked the level of fluid and also the color/smell of it?

Fluid level is where its supposed to be not leaking. The fluid is due to be changed its black and smells burnt but I'm worried changing it would cause problems because I've had multiple people tell me not to change the fluid because ill loose third and fourth because the clutch packs have started to wear down and changing the fluid will take away the only clutch material left for those clutch packs

Sounds like it already has problems what's there to lose Are you not gonna fix it? Changing fluid might help, might "break it more" but isn't it already broken.

Okay so I had a brain fart for some reasoning thought it was black and burnt but... It's not black nor burnt fluid is dang near perfect looks and smells almost like it came out of the bottle. So I have no idea what it could be I'm drawing a blank.

No lights are on so assuming no codes are present at this time. I found a video of this shift kit by transco and it fixes a lot of common 4l60e problems as far as wonky shifts and such things and I'm not sure if it would help or not

151k im sure u know what is happening :(.... more than likely the clutches are worn and just not engaging completely. yes a trans kit and upping the line pressure will make it shift better but this is only a temporary fix. you are more than likely on your way to a rebuild

okay i rebuildt my tahoe transmission after the 3-4 clutch material finally worn out
what causes the is the 3-4 apply pistion seal wears out and slowly there is less and less pressure to hold 3rd and 4th gear
what will happen is youll itll start to kick outta 4th going to down the freeway randomely and eventually more frequent till itll try to shift to 4th but it wont hold itll just rev up and backto 3rd very soon 3rd will act the same way then it wont be there
you mite as well just prepare for sticker shock and bite the bullet and rebuild it there is no temporary bandaids or fixes changing out fluid like i did it will get worse faster
cuz all the abrasive clutch material is floating around in the tranny fluid and thats whats holding her together when you flushall that out eventually itll be like you got a 2 speed tranny

My 2005 Yukon is at 176k and drives fine but slips when a trailer is on the back and has a whining noise when in the higher RPM so it's time for a rebuild for me as well but babying it for now until I decide which shop to get it done at
