Hello everyone. I'm gearing up for a 383e install. I searched the performance and tech sections for info to no avail. Has anyone done this or could steer me in the right direction for the info? Thank you.

direct swap. I highly advise a custom tune afterwards to really wake it up, I picked up a lot more power....this is what a tune did:

Base line dyno run with HYPERTECH program installed: 226.6HP, 297.3tq
After a couple runs and a few tweaks by Bryan at PCM for less.com: 261.7hp, 378.3tq.

The truck runs great, no issues at all. I have the standard bolt ons: JBA shorties, Magnaflow cats, BORLA, K&N FIPK.

not bashing what so ever cuz you definitly have alot more money and time in your rig than i do:Handshake: , but is that all that a 383 pushes out? i mean i guess my ? is with a bigger stroke and more cubic inches i would expect at least in the 290s im no performance guru by no means but with a tune and all the boltys i would imagine that engine to be a little more peppy? maybe im just ignorant to the logistics of what i am talking about but i would think you should be in the 300s, because i as well was thinking of doing this swap myself but with the amount of money do you think its better just to go with a bigger block ? say a 454 out of a junkyard and have it rebuilt?

With the stock fuel injection very likely unless you want to marine.

He may still have some torque management on it too.

The 350 makes 200 hp to the wheels. If his makes 260 hp to the wheels, I would say that a 20% increase is pretty good for 33 more cubic inches.

+1

I think that Bowties #'s are measured from the rear wheels, not the crank.
If so, those are impressive #'s indeed.
I think that 90% of any HP numbers you read are from the crank so they look higher, but you loose on accuracy. Numbers from the wheel are lower, but more impressive because they are verified as being accurate.

SunLit, I think that PCM4L removes the TM. At least they did the 100% TM reduction for my Wife's trailblazer, so I can't imagine why they wouldn't do it on an in person tune for him...

even with all those bolt ons? i mean thats 33 more cubic inches all that coming from it being stroked which means the compression strokes are longer meaning more compression build bigger bang i get the picture but even with bolt ons and a tune i would just like to think its more

what im getting at is my buddy is in the whole "tuner" thing and his honda civic throws down like 210 at the wheels with about the same amount of money invested now that being said its a 4cly!! WTF? , its a bit of a rant i guess i just dont get how a 4cly can gain so much with so little i mean that car is pretty damn quick ill have to admit but ive always been a muscle guy and my motto behind that is "there is no replacement for displacement"
