have a 2023 yukon denali 6.2. have a catch can installed and about 43,000km/27000 miles. it was -35*C /-32*F parked outside. no block heater plugged in. I went to start and it started and shut off like a stall. Tried it 3 more times and same thing. tried again and it started up just fine. checked code and got u0198 (telematics control module - no communication) and P0562 control unit 40 (system voltage low). Oil level is at full. have a catch can installed and water vapour within it was all frozen. drove maybe 10 miles to work and drove perfectly fine.

any ideas?
Known issues with the motor
- has had an oil consumption issue which is normal per the manual and per the service techs. line goes to just above low on the dip stick every 2000-2500 miles. so maybe about a quart of oil every oil change. I get an oil change roughly every 5000-6000 km/3000-4000 miles.
- had knock/vibration issues on idle, but since switching to fully premium 91+ octane have not had that issue.
- had black smoke from exhaust on occasion, but since switching to fully premium 91+ octane have not had that issue.

Is it still under warranty? If so, I would be getting my dealer on board with all the issues you are having. My oil consumption on my 21 resulted in new pistons and rings at 60k, and not out of my pocket.

-35*C /-32*F is COLD. If you have these temps on a regular basis I would consider at least a battery heater. A mention of the battery, I would have it tested or replaced. Understand the battery functions on chemical reactions so the colder the battery, the less output. While the battery may "Test" fine at a more reasonable temperature 40F+ temps, it may be borderline at -35F!! Say your battery tests out at 80% of the capacity rating, it may be fine for above freezing temps, but is may not function correctly at -35F. At -35F your battery capacity is already down by 50% compared to what it would be at above freezing.

Your vehicle is a 2023, without knowing the exact build date, the battery could have been actually manufactured in early 2022, making the battery over 3 years old at this time. On these vehicles and most modern vehicle with so many computer modules as well as things like the Keyfob Receiver and OnStar module constantly searching for command signals they play hell on the battery static charge, then drop to -35F!! No telling what you are left with to try and start the engine.

If it was my vehicle, I would replace the battery first, consider a battery heater if you could get access to power while parked outside if these temps are pretty regular. If you deal with these temps on a regular basis I would either keep a jumper pack in the house/work and bring it out in these super cold temps and connect it to the vehicle before the first cold start or a capacitor based jumper pack if you have to leave it in the vehicle in these cold temps.

The other thing is you should also have an oil pan heater for these super low temps as well. They make adhesive silicon oil pan heaters that mold and attach to the bottom of the oil pan that you can plug in to a power outlet. I think I have even seen some 12/24 Volt DC based oil pan heaters as well. Understand between a battery capacity being down by 50% and the oil being so think at -35F, your engine cranking Voltage and Speed will not be anywhere near ideal.

These are a few of the type of jumper packs and oil pan heater I would recommend:
