2022 MRC vs No MRC

Hello everyone!

I did a search and found some decent info, but I'm hoping to gather some more through this thread.

We are debating between a 2022 RST with the 6.2 and MRC (option 1) or a 2022 RST with the 5.3 and no MRC (option 2). There is a $3k difference between the two and about an additional month wait between the two. I'm purposely not stating which one is the longer wait. We are in no rush as we have a good vehicle.

No planned towing. Just a family vehicle for highway based road trips.

So, what opinions are out there as to which one to go with and why?

If your not towing I don’t see the point of 6.2. The 10 speed 5.3 is nice we like it a lot, I can’t help you on MRC. Our 2018 and now 2021 both had/have MRC and they ride great, the 2021 even better. I will say I have a 2019 Silverado HC and the Tahoe rides much smoother. I’m sure Silverado probably has a stiffer suspension tho

Personally, I like the 6.2, but if you won't be towing, and you are not interested in the performance aspects of the 6.2, then you may not want to shell out the additional funds for the 6.2.

MRC is the one thing that fans of other vehicles tout as something worthwhile. I would get it.

ppfftt if there is only $3k difference between a 5.3 and 6.2 that's a no brainer, 6.2 for the win
magnetic ride control is nice, just go into it knowing it tends to wear out over time and the shock portion of the struts eventually need replacing (maintenance item), not a big deal just part of owning a vehicle.

I have a Z71 with 6.2 MRC and air ride. Love the 6.2! Could I get away with the 5.3, sure... but for $2500 why??

MRC is nice. I can tell the difference between the settings. The best test drive is to go back and forth over railroad tracks in different settings.

Meaning, the current package on the RST trim is the 6.2 AND magnetic ride control combined Without that package it is the 5.3 and the standard suspension. Currently the dealer is saying the package is on constraint until January. We can order it without the package however and it would be built in December. The build date with the package is unknown due to the constraint.

I'm currently thinking we should wait to get the 6.2 and MRC package (sport package). I don't need the 6.2, but it would be nice. The biggest aspect is the MRC. I've heard the cost to replace it makes it undesirable. However, I've also heard and read that it makes a huge difference in the ride of the current design. That said, I'm open to hearing both sides and certainly willing to change my mind if a good argument can be made not to wait.

I think I would prefer the Premier trim which has the 5.3 with MRC. It fits what I prefer such as 20" wheels and option choices that can be tailored more. The only thing I'd miss is the dark chrome though I prefer the wheels that come with the Premier over the RST ones. I could live with either but I'd regret the 6.2 each fill up. Choices choices.

i don't know what kind of prices you saw that would make it regrettable to replace when it eventually needs it but I redid all of mine on my 2012 for about 1K including any labor that I could not or did not feel like doing myself. Those replacement parts that retained oem functionality came with a lifetime warranty as well.
by the time it wears out there will be plenty of replacement parts on the market.

That wasn't me. I would go with MRC and just count on replacing the dampers at 70,000 miles if I still owned it.

I think the quad tips come on all the 6.2s. Even if they don't, they are part of the sport performance package on the RSTs.

Good choice if this is what you want hold out rather than compromise. For this amount you should at least get what you want.

The 6.2 over the 5.3 all day long. There is not enough downside to not want the 6.2. What is it, 1 mpg better for the little motor? LOL...drive the 6.2 and then you will never think about the 5.3 again.

Also, is this the same as the Z95 suspension package? I've already ordered my Denali and have the spec sheet, it says Z95 suspension package, Magnetic Ride Control. So I assume it'll come with MRC.

Yes to both - included on Denali, Z95. Noticeable difference from SLT w/out it. Would have loved Air but I think it was another embargoed feature due to chip shortage. So far around town don't miss it. If we need raised suspension will drive the Land Cruiser .

If you're having to build and are using it as a cruiser, why not get the Duramax. The fuel cost here between regular for the 5.3 and diesel is negligible.

I wouldn't mind that as I loved the diesel I used to have. However, 1.) the wife doesn't want a diesel and 2.) the diesel option in the RST trim doesn't come with the MRC.

It is my wife's vehicle and she wants the RST interior and the MRC. That really only leaves me with the option of the 6.2. I've tried convincing her of going another route such as a premier with the 3.0 so it has the MRC, but no dice. At the end of the day it is whatever will make her happy.

I had a 2021 SLT and traded for 2021 AT4, specifically for the MRC. It is much better... I also like not having chrome. AT4 checked all my requirements, except air ride.
