My second car was a 9c1 Caprice!! It had the L99 and I swapped a LT1 longblock in to have the LT1 and I loved that car. That was my first real "performance" vehicle. It would not stop eating Optisparks every 5-10k so I had to get rid of it. I own a '09 SSV 4WD, but I just got home from Chicago Motors with my new '18 PPV 4WD. Time to start the mods :D
I heard the optispark was a part prone to failure. Read somewhere there's an aftermarket optispark much better then oem.

LOL ya right, I tried the MSD, the black one with gold contacts. The Opti is a HORRIBLE DESIGN, behind and underneath a LT1 water pump that was known for weeping water down on to the Opti. Some people had optis that last 200k, others like me kept destroying them in under 10k. I think the LT1 Long Block that I swapped in had a small bend in the cam dowel pin that drove the innards of the opti, slowly deteriorating the optical sensor or throwing out of balance the metal disc inside with small slits that provided the proper firing of the coils.

Boy I am I glad those days are over!!!
