Has anyone changed out the 35 watt HID bulbs and ballasts to 55 watt ones? I'm not at all impressed with the light intensity on the 35 watt ones and need an upgrade.

Based on your post I’m assuming you have a Denali with factory HIDs?

So one of the difficult things will be is swapping out the OEM HID ballasts. It’s doable, but the ballasts are in a designated spot on the side of the headlight assembly.

    Here’s another angle:

So it’s doable but you may or may not be able to mount your new 55W ballast in the same spot.

Also, the stock Denali HIDs are D3S bulbs so you’ll want to get ballasts with D3S connectors (which limits the available options).

    These would work:

There is also an OEM OSRAM 45W option that looks like it may actually fit into the OEM ballast location (with some modification)on the headlight housing.

But their super expensive, $500 a set, and hard to find.

What you’re trying to do is doable, it’ll just depend on how/where you want to locate the ballasts and how “OEM” you want your set up to be.

I have the 16 Yukon SLT, not the Denali. I have a different headlight housing, although I would think the spot where the HID bulb attaches would be similar.

weird on my 18 they make a D5S HID bulb with standard HID ballast connectors so you can adapt it easily, if you do not have the D3S bulb then you can use pretty much any off the shelf adapter.
