Hey Guys,
I’ve got a transmission question – my wife’s 2009 Denali XL with 66k miles is starting to “clunk” from time to time at low speed. Specifically in parking lots, or at a low speed after initial take-off, then when the accelerator is eased up and the trans shifts up, there might be a harsh clunk, and sometimes there might not be. Out on the road, under acceleration there is no clunk, and the trans shifts smoothly, but now that I’m paying attention to each and every shift I’ve noticed that the trans sometimes seems to be a bit harsh on downshifts from time to time as well. The clunk isn’t ridiculous (I drive an OBS ‘97 1500 Z71 so I’m used to driveline lash!), but it is harsh enough that I think something is wrong… I took it to our local GM dealer last week to get checked out, and just as I envisioned, there was no problem detected. I even drove around in the parking lot of the dealer with a tech in the truck TRYING to make it clunk and it shifted as well as I would have expected any 2014 on the lot to!
All this being stated, is there any known problem that I can ask the dealer to address? Their take on it was that I couldn’t replicate the issue and no codes popped up, so there was nothing for them to fix. They were very pleasant, and told me to bring it back anytime, so I obviously want to get the problem sorted before the 5 year powertrain warranty runs out! Thanks in advance for the help!
