2007 vibration between 74-80mph

I’ve searched and have read some possible causes but no one seems to come back and share there “fix” or maybe they just live with it.

My 2007 Tahoe with 120k on the clock makes a pretty significant vibration between 74-80mph. Thought maybe it was the tires but had them replaced yesterday. It’s been doing this for over a year and have already replaced both shocks and struts, and now the tires. I’ve checked the u joints and the appear tight.

I’ve tried shifting into to neutral at those speeds and it still does it.

Any suggestions on what to easily check and possibly rule out. Its been like this for over a year and has not gotten any worse or better with the maintenance items done.

Maybe the weight fell off the driveshaft. Years ago I swapped a 8.5" rear in place of it's 7.5", and I used a driveshaft that wasn't balanced and at higher speeds it vibrated like hell

Anyway to confirm or rule this out? I do have a diablo sport tuner that has a log feature, and also a scanner with live data, but not a tech2

What would I look for?

It is at speed, but goes away at 80 and above. I’ll look for a missing weight.

Just posting an update. Still haven’t solved this mystery.

I checked driveshafts and weights are all in tack. Also, just swapped wheels tires with my Dads avalanche and still the same problems.

I haven’t really worried about it, I don’t usually go at those speeds but we just went on a trip out of state and was constantly finding myself having to choose going < 74mph or >80mph and got to be very annoying.

Is the vibration felt strongest through the steering wheel or through your seat?

Have you visually inspected each of your wheels for dents our for being out of round? It doesn't matter that new tires were just installed.

Seat, I’ve swapped the wheels and tires with my dads avalanche still does it, it’s not the wheels and tires

Even though the weights may still be attached to the driveshaft, I would probably pull it and take it to a driveshaft shop and have them check it and rebalance it.

You could also check the bushings in the upper and lower trailing arms.

We have been getting this for a while. We have tried everything. Her has the driveshaft balanced. Our driveline guy even put in the unusual cure-all a aluminum driveshaft, still there.

OK, the vibration goes away when cruising along about 75 and put the car in neutral so it sounds like it might be the torque converter. Any idea what the rough cost of replacing the torque converter is and no I am not gonna do it myself

Just keep on driving it till the problem gets worse, If T converter, then by 200K you will need transmission too. Have you looked at trans and/or eng mounts? A little misalignment= shake.

IMO, it is not bad, I have yet to feel it..but the wife and others have and I am in the minority. I will have them take a look at take a look at the mounts.

Rear carrier bearings will make an audible rumble and vibration as they get loose. If you are under hard acceleration through the 74-80 mph it should not do it as the carrier is loaded. But if you you are just crusing in the "sweet spot" ie 74/80 mph for your situation on flat/level ground the vibration will occur. If it is the carrier as you hit 74 mph and the vibration starts, roll on the power ie "load the drivetrain" and the vib should stop all the way through 80mph.

try changing the transmission Filter

MAKE SURE YOU REUSE THE OLD FLUID or chances are your transmission will be 100% dead of you don't..



also try a lower gear but same RPM though...... this is a easy "way to test it"
