so i'm sure i missed it somewhere in all the post on this issue but the problem was the power lift-gate would not go up or down ...it would just click and then latch back....so i replaced the lock/latch unit and it started working again and all was good.....fast forward 2 months and now it will not open....just clicks and then latches back ....i can however open it manually and then hit the button and it will close automatically with no issues....so do i replace the latch/lock again or could it be the actuator motor assy?????.....thanks for the help!!!.....oh and i have replaced the rear struts as well...if i lift it up manually and hit the button it will automatically go back down and i can stop it with the remote and it will automatically go back up...but if it's completely closed it will not open automatically ....puzzled for sure

I’ve had this crazy thing happen sporadically to me as well over the years. Most the time it cooperates. Sometimes it doesn’t. Not sure what’s happening and it hasn’t bothered me to the point of looking into it.

Hopefully someone here will know what’s going on and maybe I’ll fix mine as well.

Can you open it from the button inside? I’ve heard of some where that button gets stuck and it caused headaches.

The rear lift gate button (located inside near the sunroof button) is a common issue with these vehicles and often is an “oops” that gets bumped.
There is also a TSB out for the wiring on these vehicles. My Denali had an intermittent ghost (usually in the winter for some reason) and would close on its own. VERY dangerous if a person wasn’t paying attention. The TSB explains the fix being a pinched wiring harness. After a trip to the stealership to fix the problem, mysteriously my headline wasn’t in the right position and the hinge plate for my lift gate piston broke, which exacerbated the problem they were supposed to have fixed. Both issues have since been resolved.
