Hello - new to the forum.
The lights on my steering wheel controls and climate controls are going out one by one it seems. Checked fuses, don't think it is a fuse.
Any suggestions??
Yes the steering wheel buttons were definitely a challenge! Once I removed the air bag, I was still unable to get the modules plugged back in, so ended up putting them back together piece by piece while installing back into the wheel.I purchased new buttons. Easiest fix.
I went with Dorman ones. The wire in the steering wheel is very short, makes it a bit challenging. Had to remove the air bag.
part numbers 901-120, 901-121,901-122,901-123 IIRC
That is a good solution. I had to use a hooked pick to hold the male end of the clip and pressure it into the back of the buttons while pushing the buttons into place.Yes the steering wheel buttons were definitely a challenge! I tried all kinds of things, but ended up reassembling in the wheel. No matter what, expect that part to be a PITA!That is a good solution. I had to use a hooked pick to hold the male end of the clip and pressure it into the back of the buttons while pushing the buttons into place.
Replace with LEDs. Then you can choose the color you want as well (even if it’s white.. [emoji6]) and they should last a long time. When I updated my head unit, I found I had 3 bulbs out on just the climate control module. That led to a full led interior replacement. (I also had recently upgraded the cluster to include a trans temp gauge, with blue LEDs, so it only made sense) I didn’t replace the interior lighting with blue however, since I still want while light if I need interior light. Just the gauges, and all panel lighting. It does require soldering skills, but really very easy work.
The bulbs are probably burned out. LED replacements is the way to go. There are services on eBay offered where you can send your controls in and they swap the LEDs in for you. That’s what I had done. Or you can buy direct replacement LED lit control buttons. Also it’s way easier getting the switches in and out of the steering wheel if the steering wheel is off from the steering column. That’s how’s I did it. Taking off the steering wheel is a pretty simple process. I was replacing my steering wheel anyways and hen the switches wa shuts easier. But to just replace the switches it can be pulled pretty easily as well.Hello - new to the forum.

I bought a 2500 HD cluster, which has the trans temp, with blue LEDs. It was 100% plug n play. I think quite a few folks on the forum have used the seller: digital dash solutions. They rebuild the clusters, convert to LEDs and then sell them.@Sam Harris, what type of cluster did you install to have the trans temp gauge upgrade?
Also, was it plug and play? Or did you have to run any additional wires/sensors to get it working??
Nope. Anything electrical from the 2003-2006 trucks will not be plug and play with a pre-2003 truck because the electrical system changed in 2003. It’s totally different than the pre-2003 suvs and trucks. For a 2001 SUV you need a cluster out of a 2000, 2001, or 2002 truck or SUV to work.So would an 03 cluster plug and play into an 01?
Yessir.Very nice. Thanks. When you say seller, you mean seller on eBay, correct?
DDS is no longer doing business. The owners son who was the tech for DDS is now in business doing the same work, but under US dash works. I believe his new website did USdashworks.com.
