I'm praying really apologizing for the set up a list thread the new Factor here and the dumbasses of which this may sound but I have a really quick question I have a 2004 Yukon XL Denali all wheel drive the rear of the transfer case exploded is the only vehicle have right now so in the interim between getting back and forth to work helps to present of an idea would it be for me to Simply remove the rear drive shaft so I can drive it front wheel

since part of the transfer case exploded it's not going to retain fluid. driving with just the front wheels will cause excessive stress to whats left and detonate. cheapest method would be to remove the transfer case completely and swap the trans tail to rwd only if that's possible. you would need the transmission tail and a rwd driveshaft. not sure if that's possible tho i know atleast some mfg use a different transmission entirely for awd models.

Folks here will try and help you the best they can, even if that means telling you an idea is bad. What you are describing is a bad idea for many reasons, some of which have already been shared.
I’m afraid Uber or Lyft is going to be your friend until you get a different transfer case.
Just to be clear......We are talking about the transfer case that is attached to rear of the transmission and not the rear differential on the rear axle, right?
Any pictures of said explosion site?

Buy a replacement transfer case from a junkyard, eBay, or partouts in places like FB Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc. There will be a tag on your transfer case that matching will give you the best chance of swapping like for like. Here is an example of the tag from my daughter's 2003 Sierra Denali, so you'll know what you are looking for (we had to replace it):

The above is considered an NP149 transfer case. It is likely what you have. Good luck!
