2001 Team DC Audio build (2025 revive)

Hey everyone. Had an account for awhile but for some reason never started a build thread even though I have been working on this thing nearly 4 years. So since I still am building it I figure I might as well post it. Been taking pictures of mostly everything I have done since I bought it almost bone stock in 2016. I’ll try to get everything posted as I did it till now.

Always enjoyed Tahoe’s and after 20 something vehicles over the years I finally decided to get one as a daily driver. Well never expected it to go as far as it has and it’s now my daily/audio competition vehicle that I have put more time and money into than anything else i have owned.

Found it at a local stealership 01/30/2016 120k miles, charcoal two tone interior and barn doors. Got it for 500 under blue book at the time. Only aftermarket thing it has was a flowmaster 40 series in place of the factory muffler.

of course the first thing that had to go was those Denali 17’s. So the next day I Went down and got a cheap set of black rhino glamis wheels to throw on.

next day was time to take the steps off

2/6/16 I said this was my sound comp rig now. Always put some type of audio in my vehicles in the past but never thought having this Tahoe would lead me to competing with it. Anyways I always wanted focal components so I finally put some in this. Also had 2 alpine type rs laying around with a hifonics “1800” watt amp. Naturally those were the first things to get put in. Around this time I also did a big 3 upgrade and by passed the factory amp behind the glove box.

1/16/16 debadged it and did the drl diode mod/ 4 high mod. Had some hids laying around from my old Integra so threw those in.

4/1/16 candied the factory tail lights cause I’m not a huge fan of factory amber markers.

5/13/16. Started to get more into higher end audio equipment. Went down to the local weld supply store and got enough 2/0 weld cable to replace my 4ga(which in the pics below you will see why) also was my first lesson on correct wire size/fusing. Sundown scv2000 amp and 2 sundown sa12’s were put in.

5/27/16 ordered a full led kit off amazon. Surprisingly enough most of these bulbs for the overhead lights still work. The 194’s that came in the kit were cheap though and didn’t last.

5/29/16 drove down to a stereo shop about a hour away to use their sound pressure level meter. First time on the meter. 144.5 DB was the best I could squeeze out of it. The installer there(now my teammate)informed me of surf city sound competition and a local audio page on Facebook. This was the day I decided I was gonna start getting into audio more.

Also figured out how easy it was to put leds in my cluster, my buddy stickered up a dash bezel for his 06 duramax not realizing it was a 1 1/2 din meant for 99-02. So I got that from him and finally got rid of my factory cassette for the pocket which I put my bass knobs.

7/9/16 painted the factory emblem black. Then a couple weeks later found another grille and painted it black. My buddy owned a graphics and screen printing company. Originally called hooligan Motorsport then changed to hooligans design once he actually got more serious about it. So that’s what the big HM on the back windows is for.

7/12/16 time for some
Sound deadening. Picked up 100 sq ft of noico 80 mil deadener. Got the back doors, cargo area, and passenger doors covered.

7/23/16. Went to a local import chicks show where I heard they were having a sound competition. First one I entered and to my surprise got first place in my class hatchback/suv 1. After this show I was hooked and circled the drain of the black hole that is car audio .also did a 2/0 big 3 and a new amazon special “150” amp alt that didn’t put out nearly what it said it did

8/20/16 found a pair of mechman 270 alternators on Craigslist and swooped those up.

yeah I know rude of me . 05single is the reason I’m doing this build thread so everyone knows. Been talking to him for awhile now on fb and decided I should probably post what I hadn’t in the past 4 years ‍

What paint did you use for the tails ?

I used the vht night shades. It turned out okay but started looking like shit after awhile.

8/26/16 was caught of guard with a passing of someone very close to me. Green was her favorite color and that’s where a lot of green will come into play with this build. My buddy decided to surprise me with a 4th order enclosure that weekend, trying to do something nice to cheer me up a little and before my first time at the biggest audio show of the nw surf city sound off 9/4/16. Won first in my class again and dedicated the win in her memory

9/8/16 found a deal on some ascendant audio havoc 12’s to replace my sundowns, this was the start of My quest to break 150db. Also found some billet grille inserts to throw on.

10/9/19 ended up getting a deal on a ampere audio 5k amp and matching 150.4 4 channel for the doors.

11/23/16 a upcoming trip to Idaho made me realize my tires were shot so I ordered some 33x11.5 mastercraft courser Mxt before the 8 hour drive.

Cranked up they stock torsion keys a touch and trimmed a little of the plastic inner fender and she was all set.
12/4/16 first big snow hit so naturally had to go test the new tires. They did absolutely amazing

12/5/16. Made another trip with my buddy in his 4Runner. Power steering pump decided to start spraying out the front seal. But wasn’t gonna let that stop me from a night of wheeling. Was following my buddy up a trail and it got a little too tight for comfort. Started backing down as there was no spot to turn around and the Tahoe cross rutted sliding into a 4ft ditch. After about two hours of digging and maneuvering we got it out. While this was happening I lost power steering a few Times and since it was spraying fluid on everything my alternator got covered and belt slip made me lose voltage a few times. Made it home safe though just ended up being a long night.

12/11/16 got the power steering pump swapped and made another trip up with a group of buddies. Great day/night of wheeling and no issues. Right before the trip I got a pair of led pods I put in the factory fog location. Worked pretty well for the most part the flood beam didn’t offer a lot of distance though.

12/19/16 finally got tired of seeing puddles of water in my marker lights so I baked them open and re sealed. But like I said earlier I’m not a fan of amber so ordered some all clear lights soon after

12/31/16. Might as well ring in the new year with a better set of fog lights. Ordered auxbeam 7” spot beam pods and made some brackets out of steel flat bar. Still have these today and they still work great!
