1st month and 1200 miles thoughts….

So ive had my new 24 tahoe RST for about a month and 1200 miles…

Being a ford pickup guy my whole life, this is my 1st suv…..

Disaapointments, not many,
1. No fog lights? My grill has the square cutouts sort of semi cut but no fog lights? Weird….
2. Backup lights kinda suck.. i have a fairly long driveway, 250’ and leave for work early in the dark… the backup lights leave a lot to be desired…

Loves
Most everything else, stereo is good enough or better than i would need
Interior is big, roomy, comfy and plenty of room. Power lift gate is very convenient for the dog-wish i could close the tailgate from the fob, not just open it… but thats a very minor inconvenience.

Mileage - decent average so far is 18 mpg, but its winter and I am sure it will be better in warmer months.

Handling in snow? Its a weird winter in maine, weve hardly had any snow, so i cant tell one way or another yet.

Amenities: great, heated seats, steering, rear heater all work good. All the camera options and views are great. Autowipers and high beams are nice.

Quirks: phone charging is a little intermittent, it charges then stops charging then if i move the phone a bit it starts charging again… not perfect but not really much of an issue at all.

Additions so far: weathertech mat for the 3rd row, which is down for the dog.

Ceramic coating- car looked fantastic till this weekend’s mucky weather got it all dirty…

Future additions:
Probably fog lights and definitely some sort of either added backup lights or backup light bulb replacements.

Wish i could disable the seat belt warning chimes, this might be a safety thing that cant be disabled, in my old f150 (2017) i could disable the chimes. I did disable the buckle up before it goes into drive preference…

So far, i love the truck, its beatiful and i am very happy i opted for a Tahoe over the expedition.

Oh, as you might be able to tell from the pics, my boxer is still getting used to getting to the window. On the drivers side, i have the 2nd row bucket seat flipped all the way up, on the passenger side, the 2nd row seat is just flipped down, and the dog sits on the bak of the seat. I might try just leaving the passenger 2nd row seat set up normally and put a cover on it and see how the dog balances and hangs out the window from the seat in its regular position… being winter hanging out the window is not that important.

How do you like NOT having a grab handle for the driver on the left A-pillar.

I have only a few hundred miles on my new 2024 Tahoe Premier 4WD and I despise not having one. The grab handle in the ceiling is not intuitive and is awkward to use.

Funny you mention this, i have not even really thought or noticed it as an issue missing the grab bar.


I am kind of handicapped, and my issue is the siderails on the tahoe are not as wide as my f150, so i sort of step onto the siderails with my foot parallel to the siderail/door where on the f150 i would just step on the siderails and climb in - if that makes sense.

Biggest thing i miss about the F250.. ofc that was a 4x4 and factory lifted a mile in the sky so i actually needed to use it… but the PPV sits low enough i really don’t *need* the grab handle, still.. in certain scenarios i definitely miss having it.

Boy if one eliminated the seatbelt chimes it would be a triple win! Thanks ill have to investigate this more….
Is there a preferred module maker? Hopefully it is easy to add - and remove if needed to pull for any warranty work!

Carbyte and Range both disable stop start along with DFM.

... Dynamic Fuel Management? I did not realize the tahoe ran on 6 or 4 cylinders.
Is there a preferred module maker? Hopefully it is easy to add and remove if needed to pull for any warranty work.

AFM has only one V4 mode, it always shuts off the same 4 cylinders.

DFM can shut off ANY cylinder, or any combo of cylinders, and can switch up variations every 2RpM.
DFM has SEVENTEEN different possible firing orders, including a 0-cylinder non-firing mode -
all 8 cylinders close themselves off of air and starve themselves of fuel,
while the engine still spins because it stays connected to the driveline.
Even Range and CarByte seem to be unable to deactivate this 0-cylinder non-firing mode,
although they are able to deactivate all the other V7, V6, V5, V4, V3, & V2 modes just fine.

The Range and the CarByte are about as plug'n'play as you can get these days.

My wife's 2022 Tahoe LT I can open and close the tailgate with the FOB, once you open the gate press the button again on the FOB and it should close. Can't remember if it's a double press or single press.

I’ve owned a 4WD SUV for 21 years, prior to this Tahoe. Each had an A-pillar grab handle. I am very used to entered the vehicle using a grab handle.

I have had both knee joints and one hip joint replaced. Although I’m healed, the grab handle would make it much easier to enter the vehicle.

I looked - the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado has a grab handle on the front left A-pillar. I wish I knew why Chevrolet didn’t include this feature - although they include an A-pillar grab handle on the right front side of the Tahoe?

Upgrading backup lights to big LEDs was easy enough on my 2017 Yukon. I went with Diode Dynamics 921s. I basically have headlights for backup lights. And they are not made in China. Left side replaced in this pic.

If you dog is like mine, it will quickly adopt the truck as his, and he will be right at your heels every time you go toward the truck.

I too have a long driveway with stone walls on each side. The OEM incandescent backup lights were useless. I upgraded to LEDs in the OEM sockets, and the LED backup lights were halfway useless. I finally installed LED strips under the rear bumper, and now I have all of the light that I need, and then some.

Why do you want to do that?

Def spend some time sniffing around this site. You’ll find that there are lots of solutions to problems/concerns here (if your owner’s manual doesn’t give you the info you’re looking for).

I was lucky enough to get a Tahoe during the chip shortage, so I don't have start/stop.

I am able to close the tailgate with the remote. Play around, try holding it or double pressing. You can also roll the windows down by holding unlock I think
