This is the site that I used to decode all the RPOs for my Yukon.

Don't worry that it's a Cadillac website, it searches the entire GM RPO database.

NR4 is the RPO code for your transfer case. As mentioned earlier, it's a Borg-Warner and is the 4482 model and it takes 1-1/2 quarts of Dexron III.

thanks for the info guys. appriciate it. does it say on the RPO code what size differential cover this truck has? gonna order some new ones to put on when i change the fluids. want to get the right size.

Update: did the front diff, the transfer case, and the rear diff with a diff cover switch out. running Mobil1 synthetic in everything. now heres the question for the last part of this 100k maintenance. my transmission fluid is pink. the manual says to do a filter replace and change. ive come to realize this is jsut replacement of what is lost when you change the filter. 5 to 6 quarts. i was gonna go Mobil1 there too but if its not a complete flush and replacement i figured im just adding to whats in there. not sure what was put in there before neither. was thinking of going with :
Castrol 03518 Transmax ATF High Mileage Transmission Fluid

anyone use this stuff? good for this replacement? 04 tahoe AWD.

You can still change the filter and swap out the six quarts and then do a fluid exchange by dropping a line into one bucket and rigging another into a bucket of clean fluid and let the motor run until the fluid starts coming out of the line clean. Then hook it all back up and top it off proper.

Don't know anything about that Castrol product, I stick with Dexron VI.

i thought about doing that but seeing as whats in there seems good still i just want to do the filter change and refill. just wasnt sure what to use since im only adding a couple quarts

UPDATE:

i attempted to do the filter change and fill myself. once i got set up it was going pretty smooth. the bolts came out easily just was making a mess of the fluid. the issue came when i tried to remove the pan. the muffler pipe is too close doesnt give clearance. theres also something on the side of the pan that has a black boot and a big ass hinge that doesnt allow you to move the pan around. so i tried to loosen the muffler brackey to drop it some. Ill admit i did see this in a couple videos i watched and thought it was just to make it easier to do but its obviously needed least in my truck. the bolts are frozen shut so i just put everything back and replaced the loss atf with fresh. gonna take the truck to thw shop today and let them replace the filter. im kinda upset i was on a roll there with the 100k maintenence. 3 out of 4 fluid changes isnt bad though i guess. heres a word of advice if anyone searches this down the road : dont attempt unless u can lower the muffler pipe or remove that bracket thing with the black boot on the side of the pan. without one of those two moved theres no clearance to move the pan out.

got it changed. the mechanic said my
Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable
is going. said its good for now but to do it ASAP whether its with them or I do it myself. any idea how difficult changing this is?

This is why I let the dealer do it with their Trans Flow machine. Even they don't drop the pan anymore.

i hear ya but my main concern here was the filter replacement. gotta drop the pan to change it. its changed now so i can change the fluid later on this way if i need to. well if my truck allows me to.

In the last week or so a fella had his go out while hunting. He didn't have to replace the whole cable, just the inserts at the end and I think he gave a part number.

The dealer calls the filter a pick up screen now. Twenty some years ago this is what Jiffy Lube did as well. The Trans Flow machine back flushes the pick up screen, getting all the junk it's picked up out, then they reverse the lines and do the fluid exchange. It has long been in the GM service manual. Us old timers have been slow to accept that!

I just did all mine plus had them install a deep trans pan ran me $550. no belts or anything just drivetrain fluids front to back and transmission annual service. 400 sounds like the right price, jeez ive got to get to ends of these things first, lol

well im pretty young so people tell me and im a strong believer in the old ways. i specifically chose a year i could work on myself actually. that doesnt even sound right if you ask me. makes more sense to replace the filter. me and the mechanic cut my old one up and saw the little metal grit in it. i rather someone drop the pan change the filter and replace the fluid after.
