10 bolt blues need help

hey whats goin on? Im new to this site but im not new to my chevy trucks. i bought a 98 hoe 2door like 6 months ago and it needed a rear diff. so i got one from the junk yard and put it in and good to go well now it seems the rear has gone on me again. I know that it is a common problem with these rears. plain and simple 10 bolts dont hold up. I currently dont have the funds to replace the rear and i dont wana put another unknown rear in for it to do it again. Im gonna try to rebuild it on my own for the first time. does anybody have any tips or tech advice to help me out? if so please do. thanx

Your first mistake was taking junk yard "junk", putting it in and running it. The general idea is to go get a junk yard piece, have it rebuilt properly then put it in and run it.

10 bolts can stand up if built right. You don't really say what you are doing with it, how you drive it, etc. Knowing this maybe we can suggest something for you. You need some special tools to rebuild a rear end properly as well ... it's not just something you bolt together, there is lots of measuring and assembling/disassembling to get it right. If it's not right you'll be here posting again in another 6 months.

well when i first got the truck the rear in it had the cover missing and there was 3 teeth missing of the ring gear. I didnt have the time to get it rebuilt so i just threw a "junk"yard rear in. I use the truck just for daily driving to and from work now. For the most part the truck is stock just a few bolt on's like headers exhaust and intake. My previous truck was a 77 fullsize pickup lifted 6" with 35" boggers, and a 04 caddy 6.0 converted to carb with a cam in it but thats not a factor now. Hopefully next year i will be able to begin a new build on this truck like my old one but for now i just need to get it back to daily driving. Im gonna keep the diff. stock cause down the road its gettin 14 bolt out back and solid axle in front. Im trying to replace everything except the gears and carrier.
