I know that there is a BIG discussion about the 6.2L recall. But I thought I would make this entry a separate item. I think the dealerships are getting frustrated with all the calls they are getting concerning the recall. The last dealership I called to try to see if there was any update to the updates:rolleyes: said like others that they knew only as much as I did. They gave me the 800 # and said that is who I need to call to find out any info and what I needed to do. WRONG. After being on hold, for a while, the person gave me absolutely nothing more than what we see at our 'owner' website or in any threads online. I asked if I needed to NOT drive the vehicle and their response "I can't advise you one way or the other'. I asked questions about who will pay for the towing or hospital bills (I guess I was being frustrated at this point) and again the response was "I can't advise you on anything such as this".

I have owned 2 Suburban's and 1 Tahoe previously and 4 Corvettes. I think my days of being a GM vehicle owner are being 'tested'. Yes, other Car Companies are having their problems too, but the 'attitudes' and 'helpfulness' I have encountered - so far - is making me ponder about future purchases.

So, what to do in the interim ?? I mean, this vehicle is my mode of transportation.....

Fwiw people with bad attitudes has just become the norm in the last few years, particularly in customer ‘service’.

I have now have become jaded by the nasty attitudes bestowed upon me by employees that just seem to think the world is out to get them.. or just don’t understand the concept of “service” . . . I am not saying it’s acceptable, and certainly not standing up for GM , but I’m just sayin don’t take it personal.

GM is up ***** creek without a paddle right now, every tentacle of the octopus probably doesn’t know what the other tentacle is doing or how to advise each other or their dealers/customers. My advise would be to let the dealers get it together and then make your move.

drive it (or don't) and wait for a letter in the mail, until you receive a letter with instructions there is nothing anyone else can do for you.
All you can do is be sure your name and address is current with your local gm dealer for the vehicle vin in question.
you can whine and complain and stand on your head and do a little temper tantrum on the floor like a 3 year old but that won't get you anywhere...
WAIT FOR THE LETTER, in cases like this being a squeaky wheel won't help.
first they have to deal with what is in the current supply chain, then what is sitting on a lot that cannot be sold, then you get to wait in line like everyone until they call you in.

Those responses are perfectly logical. Maybe not helpful or soothing, but logical.

I'd think they're dictated by 'Legal', and by the common sense realization that an anonymous stranger shouldn't be advising you on personal and legal issues.

My dealer said this last week regarding engine recall:

"We don't know what VIN's, have which serial number motor in them. I thought that would be in a database somewhere."

Might be a reason the dealership can't give you an answer.

it will go by vin number which is associated with the production date which is associated with the supplier lot number used.
nothing you can do but wait for a letter, if you do not receive a letter then your vehicle is not in the recall.
you might not hear anything for months....
worst case scenario you would receive a letter "sooner" stating not to the drive the vehicle and to "wait" longer for them to schedule you in, acquire parts, etc.
nobody at gm sit's there and records serial numbers, the only thing a serial number tells them is the production date/time/location, that tells them this motor was installed on x/xx/xxxx in 1 of 500 vehicles that went down the production line that day.....or week or month. (just for a example)
the 8th digit in the vin defines the motor type that was installed in the vehicle, the rest of the vin includes a time/date/location/vehicle trim, etc
