Was under the hood last night changing out spark plugs and noticed that almost all of my smaller wire runs covered in the black plastic loom were super brittle, and either already were missing or crumbled when I touched them. Anyone else have this issue? I assume that stuff should be replaced? I dont see it as a heat shield but more of just an aesthetic feature to help keep wires organized. Wires do not appear to have any heat damage, everything is away from touching hot surfaces.

Might as well replace it. It's a quick and easy job. You can get it cheap at Harbor Freight if you live near one or on line. If anything it keeps the road and motor grime off the wires, which can be as bad as direct heat from the motor.

I noticed the same in my 07.

I'm looking at some painless wire braid.
