04 sub tranny work vs reward

So I'm faced with the dreaded problem of owning a 4l60e in a suburban. I have a 5.3 engine and the all wheel drive system so my biggest issue is I want it to act stock and I don't know how hard it will be to swap over to a 4l80e. Is it worth it to do a well built and modded 4l80e? would it work with the all wheel drive system and would it shift correctly? am I better off trying to modify a 4l60e? Is going through the work and cash to get the 80 in worth it in the long run? I do a lot of towing and strain the transmission I have had to replace mine 3 times over 2 years I left it stock both times but this time I want it to work well for a long time.
