02 Tahoe. Got new rear hatch, it won’t latch

I just got a replacement rear hatch for the 2002 Tahoe. It came off an 02 Tahoe. But the little hook on it doesn’t go into the receiver. It’s too low. It all hooked up fine but just won’t latch due to the lower angle of that hook. Is there any way to fix it? Can it be bent? Or did I just get given the wrong hatch? Thanks!

It’s like it’s angle down instead of straight out. Frustrated.

how much is it off? 1" 2" 3" you might have to loosen it up and adjust it from the description, pictures would help

Is it possible that the piece on the hatch or the body can be turned around? How does the replacement compare to the old one?

Hard to see but the I is list too low to go into the receiver.

So it's the window glass, not the hatch latch, right? Didn't the hatch come with glass that fit?

that's the glass hatch, not the rear hatch.
you might want to look up at where it mounts on the top and see if the brackets on the rear hatch door can be adjusted up, I never had to adjust mine before so not sure if that can be done or not

And is this the glass that came with the hatch, or one from the old hatch?

maybe somebody dropped it and bent the metal loop part if so then you can maybe bend it back straight but do it carefully so the glass does not break, maybe use a vice

Thanks a bunch folks. I’m going to take it back for a replacement. It looks bent. Came from a salvage yard. Bending it back could break the glass.

Use your old glass if possible. Easy peasy to change.

Following. I replaced the struts for the hatch and glass. Noticed then that my glass won't catch easily and takes some fiddling. Not inclined to spend the $300ish on new latch, yet.

I rarely use it, so NBD, but it'll rattle around in my head forever.

I'm original owner and no wrecks, so kinda puzzled.

struts should not affect how the glass shut's other than making it firmer than it was before, if you open the glass hatch and look up where the hinges are and then wiggle the glass it will have a very slight amount of play, there is really no way for the struts to make the glass "move" the hinge is glued to the glass and then pinned to the hatch and held in place with a little c clip, if the struts were out of spec maybe it could make it either so it would not shut at all or make it lopsided a little tiny bit, try swapping the struts from side to side and see if it makes any difference.

Will do. It has likely been that way for years. I rarely open the glass. Replacing the struts was just the impetus for noticing it doesn't shut properly.
