The 09 will be a replacement vehicle. Currently on jackstands waiting for my new front diff to arrive. Once on the road, will sell my 08. It’s been such a great truck. But needed to upgrade to full crew cab.
09- GMC Sierra 1500. Need a new front diff 3.42. I found one local out of a 2015 Silverado 3.42. Looks exactly the same, but I have read that GM changed the frame on the 2015's and about so maybe it won't bolt up correctly. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks,
Dan
Update 3/17:
Sorry I forgot to circle back on this. So I tried a different plug several weeks ago and problem solved. Truck has been running strong since, passed smog just fine etc. Meanwhile, i bought a 2009 GMC Sierra with lower miles. Man I love these trucks!!
All: Can’t remember if I already provided an update, but my E-fan install was successful. Pulled my OEM harness out of my 05 Yukon and installed it in my 03 Tahoe. Thanks to all the support here on the thread. Scotty is the E-fan man! I’ve been up and running for several months, tuned, re-geared...
2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. 115,000 miles . Getting ready to change the oil on my T-case. It has the 4wd auto. Some say it takes the Auto Trak II. Others say Dexeron Vi including the dealer. What say you?
Thanks,
Dan
Yeah I checked out the Zumbrota’s. You can actually order them through Autozone still about $1,500. I may go that route. First try this used one off eBay. I’ll keep you posted. Still waiting for this one to be delivered.
I ordered one off eBay. Says it’s in good working condition. We’ll see. $450. A reman is $1,500 or a full rebuild $2,000. Eventually I’ll regear, so for now I just need something to get me by.
Anyone have success buying a used front diff GU6 off of Car Parts Direct or EBay? I found this one for an Escalade. I assume a GU6 is the same 3.43 for Silverado, Tahoe or Sierra? In other words interchangeable.
Situation: 2009 GMC Sierra 1500. Pulled front diff and after inspection learning...
@petethepug - I did test drive it. And to be honest, it was pretty beat up. I’ve found way nicer Z71’s with 200k in better condition than this one. They wanted $16k. I laughed as I walked out of there. Truck might be worth 5 grand at the most.
Update: First, I want to thank everyone who chimed in here. Unfortunately, this mission was a bust. Went down this afternoon to look at this rig and sad to say it was in pretty bad shape. Massive oil leak underneath and soiled everywhere , shift points felt weird, interior smelled like BO plus...
Nice Pete!! Yeah that e85 is tempting. I may consider a conversion kit, we’ll see. I’m going to tune it anyways so that might be something I investigate.
@swathdiver - Great considerations there. Depends who owned it and what gas they ran in it. Kind of a guess at this point. Ima test drive it this weekend and she how she runs. Regarding the use, it will mainly be a truck to put around in. I live in the north east hills of California. We get...
All,
Thanks for the thoughts. I’m not so concerned with fuel mileage etc. it’s a truck and I don’t expect it to do great. But good to know there’s options! I will explore this more…
So I am looking at acquiring a new rig. Specifically looking at a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Crew Cab AWD. This truck comes with the 6.2 engine. Anyone have any thoughts on this compared to the an 08-09 Sierra SLT 4wd? I know it all depends on what my plans are for it, but specifically...
All: I really appreciate the dialog.
@OR VietVet - yes I swapped plugs 1 and 5, also swapped coil packs and wires. No change. I even threw a new plug in there. No change.
I do suspect a vacuum leak somewhere. I wonder if there is another bad plug somewhere and it’s throwing a code for cylinder...
At this point I’m thinking maybe fuel or air issue. I’d be surprised if it was something internal in the cylinder. But we will find out. Gonna enjoy my weekend for now. On Monday I’ll take it into the steelership and have them diagnose it. $$$
Go from there. Will report back.
@OR VietVet - good points and good call on the MAF. I’m back to the drawing board on this sob. But it’s odd that CEL went off and code disappeared when I put it back in. Nonetheless, tomorrow is another day.
UPADTE 2: Yes this is weird. So I put that stupid thing back on, CEL turns off with no codes. Drive it for a minutes and rough rough idle and throttle. CEL back on. I’m leaning towards vacuum leak or MAF sensor bad. My question is, that little air module in there pretty good. How did it just pop...
UPDATE: I hope someone can find some humor here. I’m standing there over the engine bay contemplating my next move. Compression test first? Or fuel pressure test? Maybe start swapping wires and coils?
I’m ready to pull the trigger, coveralls on and all. So I look down and at a glance see my...
Good suggestions. I will try and swap 1 and 5 and packs to see if it follows. Otherwise I will move on the the fuel, compression etc. I've heard others say could be o2 sensor, but I thought it had its own code. Po305 is specific to C5 misfire. Thanks for the inputs!
@Dustin Jackson - No concerning sounds in terms ok knocking etc. This truck has ran excellent since ownership never had an issue. This morning, Engine turns over just fine but with rough idle and flashing CEL.
1. I'm suspect of the plug because I cheeped out and got the whole plug and wire set...
