Replacing sway bar links on 2007 Tahoe

All went pretty well without using a lift or removing the wheels. Turning the front of the tire on the side you are working on inward gives you a nice working space to get to the links on the backside. I am not very mechanical and had to figure out to remove both sides of the old links in...

Replacing sway bar links on 2007 Tahoe

Thanks....just crawling up under and looking I didn't see any reason I couldn't put a backup wrench on the top hex of the bolt and a socket on the bottom nut and get it loose and changed out.

Replacing sway bar links on 2007 Tahoe

My oil change place said that the bushings on my sway bar links were broken down and I looked and sure enough they are. I've looked at some U-tube videos of how to change the links and bushings out but I notice that all those guys have the tahoe up on a lift with the wheel taken off. Can I...

2004 Tahoe Z71 falling off into netural while driving

I've been doing reading online and I found several posts by folks having the exact problem saying it was the encoder motor that may set the truck in 2wd but can't hold it in gear and allows it to slip out. It might get to the point eventually that it won't even be able to set it in 2wd at all...

2004 Tahoe Z71 falling off into netural while driving

I think it's back in the "habit" of doing it now so I'll have to get my hands on a service tech and show him what it's doing.

2004 Tahoe Z71 falling off into netural while driving

I had told the dealership about it slipping out of gear and having to run it in auto 4wd a couple of weeks ago when I had it in their shop replacing the heads and they "said" they drove it around quite a bit and it never failed for them...and they checked for a "code"....and it's true.....when...

2004 Tahoe Z71 falling off into netural while driving

Once I got back in town I caught it slipping out of gear again so I've just been running it in Auto 4WD and I ordered a new switch cluster and put it in, but it still slips back out of gear just driving around town and you have to pull over and put it in Auto 4WD and then you can put it in 2WD...

    Castech Head Question

I just replaced the heads in my 2004 Z71 Tahoe at 138,000 miles. When it went bad it went bad pretty suddenly. I was losing about a gallon and a half of coolant mixture every week and that was just driving around town less than 100 miles a week.

2004 Tahoe Z71 falling off into netural while driving

You are talking about the switch cluster on the dash could be the problem? I looked on Ebay and saw some switch clusters listed there. I may pull the dash bezel off and see what kind of part number is on my switch. I saw some used ones that looked the same as my layout but I think I would be...

2004 Tahoe Z71 falling off into netural while driving

My 2004 Tahoe Z71 is always used in 2 wheel drive and it has that push button cluster on the left side of the dash. I keep it in 2 wheel and I've caught it dropping off into neutral (the shift indicator is still in D) while driving on interstate. I have to pull over and turn the key off and...

Phantom Coolant Leak in 2004 Tahoe

I don't think the intake nor water pump was leaking apparently just the porous heads were leaking plus I don't have much leverage with this dealership because I have never bought a new chev and this chev was bought 2nd hand out of town so that said I probably have no room to gripe much to...

Phantom Coolant Leak in 2004 Tahoe

Wanted to double check on something. My 2004 Z71 Tahoe 135k miles with the 5.3L engine went from having to add a little antifreeze/water to the reservoir from time to time over the last year to having to add it more and more often. Carried it to the chevy dealership and the mechanic said it...

How to find out my engine size?

Need some help guys. I've got a 2004 Tahoe Z71 4WD truck and I have looked on the door posts and in the engine compartment to try and find out what size the engine is and I can't find any labels or anything about the engine. How can I determine what size engine I have? I changed out the...

Transmission problems with 2004 z71 Tahoe

Is replacing the transfer case motor a big deal that a semi handy guy can't do or is it best to carry it to a mechanic or transmission shop?

Transmission problems with 2004 z71 Tahoe

Thanks for the information gentlemen. I assume it's okay to just run it in 4WD Auto until I can get back home and get it repaired? Is replacing that motor a big deal that a semi handy guy can't do or is it best to carry it to a mechanic or transmission shop?

Transmission problems with 2004 z71 Tahoe

Here may be another clue. I just remembered I noticed that there was an orangeish yellowish indicator light drawing of an engine on the dash when we got here today. And after parking the Tahoe for a few hours when I got back in it the symbol was gone and the Tahoe was taken on about a 5...

Transmission problems with 2004 z71 Tahoe

Well, Just traveled 950 miles to come and see my son and family for the Christmas break and about half way out here I noticed that when I was going down hills that the transmission was going out of gear and I would have to slow down and it would "shift" back into drive. It went from going...

Trouble removing ignition key problem with gear selector 2001 Yukon

Good evening, My wife told me she has been having problems removing the ignition key from her 2001 Yukon. I looked at it and the problem is that the gear selector is "floppy" meaning it doesn't snap forward when you put it in park. You have to manually push the lever forward in order to...
