Hello all. I am looking at the 2026 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon and we test drove them and like the ride quality a lot with the Magnetic Ride Control and love the space. My biggest concern is reliability and lifter issues on the gas engine and emissions issues on the diesel. We are a family of 4 and drive some short trips 10-20 minutes and a lot of 30 minute trips to and from town. Also long road trips. For lowest risk of any issues including major issues which engine do you suggest most and what have your personal experiences been? Also, what trim do you like most between Premier, At4 and Z71?

In the 21-24 model years I think the premier was the best looking of the chevys. 25-26 the high country to me looks the best. I like the the high country appearance and I am constrained to the 6.2 L I ve had the 5.3 on several Tahoes and like the 6.2L better. I’m as concerned about the reliability as is everyone else. I’ve proactively switched to 0w40 oil. I think the engine does run noticeably better
All that being said. If the premier had kept its grill from the 21-24. I would have stayed with premier and probably downgraded to the 5.3L. The risk in the engine blows

I have a 2024 5.3 gmc slt and a 3.0 2025 gmc slt truck. I have had 4 5.3s and not had any problem… the 3 uses less fuel.. but then again you have DEF and a deal where it runs rich every hour.

I think the 5.3 is better.

But also.. the oil burner has a 5 year 100k warranty. That is why i have the oil burner truck. It has a better warranty..

I prefer the RST street truck trim. It’s all your own opinion pick what YOU want.

Engine wise they say the 5.3 and diesel are most reliable. That being said I went with the 6.2 because of the extra power and it’s the “post recall motors”. Rolling the dice but I have about 7k miles on my motor so far with zero issues. I will probably get the extended warranty that covers it up to 100k miles though because of the potential engine issue and all the electronics this truck has.

I’m going to get an oil analysis done at 11k miles; if it looks perfect I think I’m good to go. If not and there is any abnormal bearing wear I’ll 100% buy the warranty.

I would get the 5.3 if you can’t wait for newer engines and as soon as it is out of warranty do a electric delete that plugs into the PCM. I would do it from day one personally but remove it when going to dealer to have any work done including oil changes etc ……..

Did you like one better than the other? Or not notice any differences?
Not really. The LM2 may got a hair better fuel mileage. But I think it was also broken in further too. In the real reality these engines don't get broken fully till probably 20 to 30,000 miles. It just takes a while on diesels to really settle in and deliver the best fuel economy they can deliver. Although my newer one has surprised me a couple of times and if I stay out of the throttle it'll return in the 31 to 35 mile per gallon range on interstates if I keep it around 60 to 65. But the real reality most people on Interstates do 85 and if you don't you get run over. At that point fuel economy is about 25 miles a gallon. The LM2 had to have a new coolant control valve a couple of months back but it was warrantied and taken care of the dealer in one day. Not a big inconvenience really. So far basically happy with both of them. My 25 is getting the evaporator case changed on it this week due to some HVAC issues. But that has nothing to do with the engines. Hoping for the best since they are taking the dash completely out of it.

I have a '26 Denali Ultimate LZ0 with about 5k miles on it. I am mostly happy with it. 24mpg lifetime, including break-in and 600 miles towing, driving as I normally would (+7mph everywhere). I have seen as high as 29.1mpg over 350 miles. I have put 1 box of DEF in it and am sitting at 50% right now. I bought this thing for the range, and in that regard has not been a disappointment. 600 miles on a tank should be readily attainable on long highway trips.

I had the thrust bearing measurement done, and it came back negative. Knock on wood.

I waited eight months to order this SUV. When my slot came up, my only option was color on a loaded truck. That gave me those massaging middle seats. I am extremely unhappy that they do not fold flat, which completely removes the U in SUV. Had I known that, I would have waited until I could pick the options that would have given me a fold-down middle row. Fortunately, my family loves those seats.

My grades for this thing:
- engine: A- (deduction for some diesel sounds below highway speeds, but sounds like a boss under load)
- tranny: A (always in the gear you want, and holds gears like it is reading your mind)
- ride not towing A: (amazing, and I have the 24" wheels)
- ride loaded and/or towing: A (really tough to tell by the ride of the truck if it is loaded up or empty)
- equipment: B (deduct for the non-folding middle row and the infuriating ASS that I had to spend money to eliminate; also thinking about removing the screens stuck on the back of the front headrests)
- electronics: C because they can be annoying, especially the driver's aids you cannot permanently eliminate. I do not use CarPlay. A plus is that the system is excellent at learning differing garage door openers
- fit & finish: A at this point
- audio system gets a B+ (are we ever satisfied with factory sound systems?)

Special call out for the software where you configure settings per trailer. I have one (7x12 covered) and am getting ready to order another one (8.5x24), so the configuration memory is a nice feature. I'm going to buy the GM trailer camera system and send it to the factory where I'll get this next trailer built. There are two camera plugs in the rear by the 7-way, and integrates nicely into the center screen of the truck to give you a 360 rear view behind and around the trailer.

Some say the 6.2L bottom end issues have not been fixed, but I have not seen any real proof that is true. Where do you live? Here in WI premium is $1.10 more than regular (I would only use premium in the 6.2L) and diesel is a full $1.50 more than regular, pretty much negating any advantage the diesel has fuel economy wise. Also, no real need for the AT4 or Z71 if you are not going to go off-road.

Well diesel is only 40 cents more a gallon but you can go about 40% further on it so how is that negated? I'll be the first to say that diesel prices are ridiculously too high. It certainly doesn't make it as appetizing as it was three months ago. I paid as low as 3.49 a gallon for diesel around the first of March. It's a solid 5.99 in our area right now. But I go two weeks at least on a tank and I do believe the prices will come down A dollar to $1.50 a gallon by fall. It doesn't really matter to me though really. I like everything else it does very well including being able to take a three or 400 mile round trip to my grandkids and still have a quarter tank left.....

You can fix that automatic stop start in about 20 minutes permanently for 100 bucks. That's a no brainer. As far as those second row folding seats go, sorry but that would have been a deal breaker for me. I will say those seats look nice and or comfy, but their utility for the rest of the unit Goes against every reason for having this big vehicle. Not to mention you paid extra for them. I have my seats down a couple of times a month for various reasons.

We bought the base High Country. Love it. Not a fan of the second row buckets though. They make it difficult for the dog. And when you fold them down you have this large gap between them. Plus the auto down on the right side is temperamental. Works 50% of the time.

Have not found a way to defeat start/stop without disabling it every time you start up. Switching to L9 eliminates DFM. Again have not seen any other way to defeat this. Weird that every time I switch to manual mode its in L7. Never seen it being in L10. Wish there was a way to know what gear and cylinder mode its in. Running 5W30 just to be safe. Typically getting > 20mpg in the city.

The shift lever P,R,D,N is stupid. On the right side pressing the button goes to park but on the left side pressing the button cleans the windshield. Meanwhile my Bolt on the Right runs the windshield wipers. Traveling at 70 MPH and the wife shifts into park trying to clean the windshield as she normally drives a Ford. It takes a while to figure out how to shift to N when going through the car wash. They don't like when you hit Park. Or if you slightly lift and stay in D.

No cars should have an "Infotainment" system. Way to distracting.

SW Update changed the position of the HUD. Fixing that is buried in the menus.

Android Phone autoconnects. So if you are travelling and using the built in navigation, and start search on your Android phone, Android connects to the Infotainment system and interrupts the driver. Turn bluetooth off on the phone and the car turns bluetooth on the phone back on. Dumb smart phones.

Built in navigation, (Android), is terrible. Searching for a gas station informed me of one 350 miles away. Travel plaza same. Asked it for a gas station within 5 miles and it doesn't understand. Seams to prefer Mobile stations. Using the phone's Android Auto is much better. However If I'm using my phone and want to listen to the Wifes iPhone you have to use the Apple Maps and switch it.

GM has been building autos for a long time. You would think they would be better at it.

But best of all the High Country Tahoe is 12dB quieter than my Chevy Van at 70 mph and 7dB quieter than the wife's Ford Escape. Making long trips much more enjoyable :)

Best $99 you will ever spend and takes minutes to install

Uh, simple math. Diesel is $5.90 here, regular is $4.20. That's a 40% difference. Been that way for a long time here. That's why I asked where they lived. So a 5.3L 4WD Tahoe rated at 20 mpg highway by the EPA means a diesel would have to get 28 mpg just to break even. EPA rates them at 26......

Nice. I love the nav in my 2026 RST. I usually just push the steering wheel button and say “how do I get to X” and it works flawlessly for me.

As far as built in “ai” it’s one of the better ones. You can tell it to turn on the rear seat heaters, ask about weather on certain days, all nav stuff, jokes, also I think it does news if you ask it what’s going on. Also you can ask it rudimentary questions it can answer.

However you may need a connected on star plan to use all those features.

The very vast majority of people that buy these vehicles want the 6.2 in them. If you look at vehicles that are ordered for stock at most dealerships especially mid to upper trim levels, all 6.2's. Vast majority of topics on these forums engine wise.... all center around the 6.2 good or bad unless you have a Duramax....

Cadillacs, yes, only way they come. Tahoes not even close. A check of inventory within 250 miles of me shows 70% of all Tahoes with the 5.3L. 24% for the 6.2L. Yukons use more 6.2L's , mostly because of Denali trim, but even there it is 55% 6.2L, 40% 5.3L. Diesels are 5-6%. The reality is 5.3L's outnumber 6.2L's nearly two to one across the Tahoe Yukon line here.
