So my daily beater 2006 F150 is off to the graveyard today, second tranny down.

I will now get my wife’s 2026 Tahoe RST as my daily, but I do truck stuff like Home Depot runs. I use my pickup bed for mulch, trees, couches, large and sometimes dirty crap.

My options are get a utility trailer(really don’t want to store it), or do you guys have a good liner that can make the back a large cargo area with all seats folded down and prevent dirt from going between the seats?

How much weight can the interior of a Tahoe hold? Can I throw 20 bags of mulch back there?? Lol

Anyone know how much weight can go back there without breaking the seats? 1000lbs???

Not going to do that just curious.

I’ll probably rent a trailer when I need it, that seems like the winner.

Not saying it was legal but I have had 25 80 pound bags of concrete in a Tahoe. No issue at all. It is not like you are hauling the weight to the mountains. Usually these loads are for a 10 minute drive to Lowes and back home.

I hauled 80 bags of mulch in multiple trips over the winter. Left the captain's chairs up right and just used my nominal husky liner. The key is to only get clean and intact bags that aren't wet/broken. I have them pop open a new skid and tell them I'll come get it all w/ 2 days. A quick shop vac and rinse of mat and you'd never know anything was in there. About 20 bags a trip. 10 min away. I don't "Save" my vehicles. The are here to do whatever job I need them to do if it's reasonable that they can do it....

They make one for if all seats are down?
i have that Weathertech cargo liner….. It is only long enough for the 3rd seat down ( or in my ’05, ..the 3rd seat removed. )
They don’t make one for the full 8’ length.
What I use is a thick canvas drop cloth, folded in half, & reaches up against the 2nd row seats folded up, and goes to the rear edge.
Then the cargo liner on top.
( In photo…. I have tool bags covered, against the folded 2nd row seats with a black blanket. Rear portion of drop cloth will fold back & down over the bumper.

As others have said just throw in a large tarp and you will be fine.

I have the GM cargo liner and also have a cheaper cargo liner on top of that as my third row is always down and I carry wet sporting gear as well as mulch and stuff that goes to the dump.

I fit a whole 8’x20’ pressure treated deck in one load after cutting it up.
It went to the dump as I was replacing the decking boards with composite.
That pressure treated wood was heavy and filled the entire rear cargo area with second and third row folded down.
I had a tarp on the bottom in addition to the cargo liners and after dumping just a shop vac after removing tarp and it was like new.

With 2nd row seats folded down for cargo purposes (no 3rd row seats in my Tahoe, doubt I'll ever want them),
I've literally put a ton - 2100lb - of sod patches behind me, and drove VERY SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY for about 20min in stop'n'go. NEVER AGAIN, DAMNT.
GM OE Z71 rear coils were not quite up to the task, researching stiffer rear coils (how much stiffer?) and front torsion bars ...
Threw a tarp over the cargo area, hardly any interior cleaning needed at all. If the tarp is well larger than needed, you're golden.

To be clear, the BIG FREAKEN DEAL was 20min of Carolina Squat - deeply embarrassing in NYC, even to help a friend accomplish something important.

My educated GUESS as to how much a Tahoe / 'burban 1500 can carry IN IT, behind the front row:
let's see ... 1driver, 8riders, 250lb each, x 9 = 2250lb, including 3 250lb-ers in front row ...
2250lb, minus 750lb for the 3 big guys up front =
1500lb of whatever
If each person weighs a more reasonable 200lb, it comes down to . . .
1200lb of whatever
Definitely move the heaviest stuff / as much of that weight as possible, as far forward as possible, so the rear suspension isn't doing ALL the work.

Last fall after a good hunting trip, we put three large does in the back of my 2023 Premier for the trip to the meat processor. With the jump seats folded down and using a large tarp, we had zero problems.

I doubt that consideration was given to seat designs with regard to loading them up when folded. I can envision some deformation of the cushioning (thinking on the backs).

We don't have that issue because we had no 3rd row and the second row bench was removed as soon as we got out Tahoe. The brand new 18 year old seat is in the basement, probably worth more than anything on the truck at this point.

Anyways, I built a shallow deck where the 2nd row seat was and our entire back area is a flat platform. There is a weather tech cargo liner behind where the 2nd rod seat was and in front of the vinyl floor runner material. I miss the late 50's car floor coverings so I tried to reproduce it and it has served us well. A couple sleeping bags softens the bed for hauling the dogs to adventures when needed.

Tell your wife you are no longer doing projecrs so as not to mess up the car…work on your golf game, get a moto or enjoy life!

Seriously tho, I have an 2nd gen Ram 2500 with an 8 ft bed that does the heavy lifting so the Yukon shorty stays fresh ..however I have had several 4 x 8 sheets of plywood stacked in the back on a tarp with the tailgate bungee corded and worked like a champ!

you can't (or shouldn't rather) load that much weight on the seats, the seat back when folded flat is just cardboard with cloth/pleather over it.
if you have the seats folded up or out of the back then it's a standard 1500 weight wise.
a tarp works.
probably wise to either fix the pickup (again) or get another one, otherwise you'll kick yourself later... sooner or later
